All great economic empires eventually become fat and lazy and squander the great wealth that their forefathers have left them, but the pace at which America is accomplishing this is absolutely amazing. Mr. Freedom to buy from anywhere bub is going to support the income tax. LOL. The most destructive thing to personal freedom ever invented. WHAT A FOOL.

It's good enough for God, it's good enough for America. Israel was governed by God in the time of the Judges through the tithe to the temples. Basically a 10% flat tax on everyone. They did this for 400 years.

The (IRS) Israeli Revenue Service? Come I get ridiculed for the Tariff Act of 1789 and you go back how far? That ancient tax was a wealth tax not an income tax. LOL.

The (IRS) Israeli Revenue Service?

You anti-Israel too? Sounds like something you read on an anti-Israel kook site.

Come I get ridiculed for the Tariff Act of 1789 and you go back how far?

Yeah, I know you Trumpies can't stand those that study the bible, but God had the income tithe (tax) in the time of the Judges. It worked just fine and it is the most free form of taxation.

That ancient tax was a wealth tax not an income tax. LOL.

No, it was collected as they earned.

You say "ancient". Do you think God's Word too old to get any wisdom out of it?

Well you can compete with 2 dollar and hour job...IF YOU BUILD DRONES AND ROBOTS AND THE LIKE.....AND BUILD THEM AND FIX THEM ....IN THE U.S.A.

Hell I just saw a drone that will plant a thousand trees every day and then follow the growth of each one every day.
But if we let some damn company go to China to build them, it doesn’t help U.S.

I like to hear Trump talk about Boeing instead of Carrier Air Conditioners. And Apple too.

Oh nukes will be used again. Especially with the miniaturization of nukes and the desperation of very rich countries. Look up Davy Crockett Nuke.

If Ford doubled production, but also quadrupled productivity you bet they could sell them.

1. I am a consultant, but I am not a paid lobbyist. I am an engineer by trade.

2. I happened to be doing business in places in western Canada that were facing serious challenges as a result of the U.S. softwood lumber tariff in the early 2000s -- so I made it my business to educate myself on the issue. You might want to try that yourself every once in a while.

Does free Republic let professional lobbyist post here? Do they pay FR for the privilege? What average citizen knows that much about Canadian lumber tariffs and it's detailed history?

This has to rank up there with the most ridiculous statements I've ever seen on FreeRepublic. Someone happens to know more about a subject matter than you do, so you assume that he's a K Street lobbyist and inform the moderators about this? LMAO.

Which means we’d still have 90+ million Americans who aren’t working ... which kind of defeats the purpose of the tariff in the first place, doesn’t it?

How many cars can people buy?

The only way to do this would be to have Ford produce sh!t cars that only last a couple of years.

Didn't we go through this once before? If I remember correctly, it was one of the defining characteristics of the Carter administration.

“We had free trade from 1946-1965 or so when Europe was still rebuilding and American goods could go anywhere. But that’s clearly not the case today.”

From 1946 to 1965 we had quotas on imports as well as high tariffs by today’s standards. In addition the government restricted US companies from trading with the communist block. This was not “free” trade in the classical sense or by today’s definition.
