Why the Republican Establishment Doesn't Like John Kasich
New York Times Magazine ^ | MARCH 21, 2016 | Robert Draper

Posted on 03/23/2016 11:26:05 AM PDT by kevcol

...He was forced to apologize for publicly describing a policeman who had given him a traffic citation as "an idiot." State Republicans have not forgotten how, in 2013, he lectured the Ohio House speaker Bill Batchelder — a Republican legislator who had served over three decades in the House — about his moral duty to support Kasich's Medicaid expansion plan: "When you die and get to the meeting with St. Peter, he's probably not going to ask you much about what you did about keeping government small. But he is going to ask you what you did for the poor. Better have a good answer."
.
.
"A chicken in every pot," he scoffed when a young New Hampshire woman urged him to support clean energy. He added: "The problem, young lady, is that you can't just make things happen."
.
.
Kasich has also been snappish toward prospective donors. None of this would necessarily set him apart from others in the field, but for Kasich's at times pious-sounding calls for civility and for "living a life that's a little bigger than yourself."..."The whole thing about being the country's healer and giving people hugs is off-putting to conservatives who take ideas really seriously.

For the past week I’ve listened to Kasich and he sounds like he just makes stuff up as he goes along.

Why they don’t like Kasich? Two words: Balanced Budget.

Ksick is a closet Democrat. That’s why I won’t vote for him.

Besides, he’s over. Move along, nothing to see here.

One thing Peter certainly won’t ask is “how many people did you take money from to give to the poor and take the credit for yourself?”

Kasich, you once showed promise - you are dead to me now.

I think he is holding out for a Trump Admin. position so he can get out of Ohio before the Obamacare Medicare Expansion costs are shifted back to Ohio and bankrupt them.

They loved how the Republican machine in Ohio was able to steal the primary election for Kasich. But they know his influence does not extend beyond Ohio. So their new man is Ted Cruz in their game of Red Rover, with that ever popular cheer Ted Ted he's our man if he can't do it no one can!!!

Of course when that fails, they have the convention to try and derail Trump. At their own peril I might add, as it will give rise to the strongest 3rd party ever seen since the rise of the Republican 3rd party from the Whig Party, as Republican base members jump the sinking ship.

What a stupid article.

The NYT should not use phrases like Republican establishment.
It just allows them to avoid being specific and allows them to be more dishonest than usual.

Who doesn't like John Kasich and why?

The article named a couple of people but none seemed to dislike Kasich. It was just a stupid article that said nothing.

The only part that was informative was late in the article:

“that impression also lingers in the collective memory of a Republican establishment whose support in July Kasich may need perhaps more than he now needs votes.”

In other words, there will be a brokered convention and Kasich needs to win the support of the Republican Party establishment to get nominated at a brokered convention.

If you’re a democrat or an establishment republican, what’s not to like?
