In any event, I was surrounded by plenty of folks who were given the same choice during my time.

I can think of four friends I grew up with that were given that choice in the early 60's. One became a lifer, the other three became good, wholesome citizens. (not saying the lifer wasn't)

I was at aircrew winter survival school, Dec 71-Feb 72. If I had thought about it I should have gotten my wings in the summer. Then winter survival would have been much easier.
