Why Is Ted Cruz Getting a Total Pass For Attack on Donald Trump’s Wife?
Mediaite ^ | 03/25/16 | Tommy Christopher

I get that the media has gotten the memo that Donald Trump is the greatest threat to civilization since NBC’s “The Slap,” but the controversy surrounding the Trump v Ted Cruz wife-dissing battle has revealed a stunning bit of tunnel vision, particularly among liberals. While everyone piles on Trump for retweeting an unflattering photo comparison of Heidi Cruz and Melania Trump, they’re giving Cruz and his SuperPAC a complete pass for what amounts to a political sexual assault on Melania Trump. Both attacks were ugly; I would submit that the explicitly sexual nature of the attack on Mrs. Trump is worse, but for the sake of argument, let’s call them even.

Consider this introduction to the flap by Chris Hayes on Thursday night’s All In, in which he takes great pains to note that the PAC that attacked Melania Trump has “no direct connection” to Ted Cruz, then delights in Cruz’s (admittedly awesome) refusal to say he won’t support Trump if he’s the nominee:

God bless Hallie Jackson for asking that followup, but another great question would have been why didn’t Ted Cruz immediately denounce the anti-Melania ad and demand that it be taken down? As for Hayes, he and the rest of the media are giving Cruz a benefit of the doubt that he has not earned. Sure, he’s not supposed to coordinate with SuperPACs, but this is the same guy who swore his campaign had nothing to do with spreading the rumor that Ben Carson had dropped out in Iowa, only to have voicemails to the contrary surface almost immediately. At a bare minimum, Cruz bears responsibility for not immediately coming out against the ad.

Be honest. Post the Melania ad from the day before right above that Trump retweet. Then it makes perfect sense.

The Melania ad was a cheap shot gutter-politics tactic. But Cruz didn't run it. If I understand it correctly, Trump really did tweet that comparison between his wife and Cruz's wife.

Now you may argue that Cruz was behind that PAC ad, but he says he wasn't.

I can personally attest to the fact that when I was politically active, My group would run ads directed at the opposition which the Republican candidate had neither input or even knowledge of. I and my group were third party participants, and we hammered the Democrat candidate into Dog-Sh*t.

We even received a notice from the Federal Election commission informing us that the losing Democrat Candidate had filed charges against us, and that we were to appear at a hearing to answer them.

My point is, third party attack ads do exist. In Mormon Utah, I'm not surprised that they pushed a specifically Mormon perspective on attack ad against Trump, who let's face it, doesn't appeal to the religious as much as does Ted Cruz.

I find the possibility that a third party, religiously oriented advocacy group, would run such an ad to damage Trump, to be very plausible.

“I gotta say, I don’t see the Melania Trump pic as much of an “attack”.”

Its context and you know it. It’s the difference in seeing a pic of someone’s wife at the beach in a bikini and commenting that she looks really happy that day, or of instead saying most women wouldn’t want that photo displayed.

Cruz had it portrayed as undesirable for her to be first lady. That’s a flat out insult to a wonderful woman who didn’t deserve it. She has never attacked America like Heidi. She never has her kids away from she or Donald, unlike Heidi wo has a paid mom-substitute so she can work 80 hours in her schemes.

It was an attack.

“because he’s not responsible for it, that’s why”

B***S***, Ted’s people were on Fox News days before Utah, and talked about the Photo, and how Trump’s wife was a ‘Foreigner’.

Ted probably knows like the rest of us that Trump doesn’t give a rats ass about his wife. To Trump his future ex wife is nothing more than a hot piece of ass used to deflect negative media attention. Trump is just responding like he would if anybody said anything negative about any other Trump property.

“but I think the public has every right to know the morality of candidates as well as their wives.”

Like not raising her own kids? Like working to literally erase the Mexican border? Immoral things like that?

Trump was not mocking beauty, he was pointing out what a psychotic bitch looks like.

So what was Trump's beautiful wife doing in the picture? If you don't think the intent was to compare the beauty of one against the other, then you are not being honest.

“It kinda seem like “thought” is not something that you are any good at. I recommend you stick with the talking points to avoid making a further fool out of yourself.”

When challenged, you speed away from your original, ill-advised post faster than Al Sharpton speeds by an IRS late-payment office.

Trump’s wife was paid for posing nude in a magazine. A political ad was run showing her posing nude in a magazine. What’s the problem. Didn’t the same thing happen to Brown when he was running for Senator?

It did, and if anything it helped him. But of course that was in Liberal Massachusetts, and not Conservative Utah.

But seriously, did anyone expect Trump to do well in Religious Conservative Utah? Even without the ad, I still figured Ted Cruz would win that state.

Besides, if Cruz read had a problem with the ad, he would've condemned it immediately. Since he did not, it's not that hard to read between the lines.

I believe he did condemn it. You can speculate as to when he learned about it, but I am operating under the assumption that he condemned it as soon as he found out about it.

Please provide a quote of Cruz categorically condemning it.

Proves the talking points came from inside the Cruz camp. Not at arms-length.

It doesn't "prove" it, it merely establishes it as a possibility. They could have came up with the idea independently.

Even so, talking about what Melania did isn't the same thing as putting out a photograph.

Neither is Trump responsible for the National Enquirer story but Cruz is blaming him for it. Cute double standard!

Because it wasn’t him that made the ad. It was an anti-Trump PAC that was behind it. They aren’t for Cruz, they’re against Trump.

But he does need to sharply distance himself from said PAC if he wants this to go away.

If this is true why is Cruz using a double standard and blaming Trump for the National Enquirer story when Trump has no control over the National Enquirer.

Then it follows that Trump doesn’t control what the enquirer does.

If were a total fabrication, don't you think Mr. Big Lawyer Cruz would be launching a lawsuit for libel for millions of dollars? If Cruz says nothing about a lawsuit (and he hasn't so far), then we can be sure the story is true.

My understanding is that politicians have little recourse to libel laws. Something would have to be particularly egregious before they could achieve any sort of success in court. Private individuals have far more ability to sue than do public personalities.

Why does everyone think the photo of Heidi was an attack?

It was a headshot - plain and simple - and Cruz gets madder than a wet hen and calls it an insult. Isn’t this an overreaction....or was it a diversion to muddy a story he knew was coming out.

Cruz can’t get through a sentence without using Trump’s name so I guess the “blame Trump for what I did” is his new strategy.
