Too few alternatives. Way too few.

His favorability polling is off the chart bad. There are people like me who will vote for him because the thought of either commie stacking SCOTUS with lefties is too much to take. But there are many more who won’t. Both Trump and his supporters need to dial it back or Trump will lose in a landslide as nd take the House and Senate with him.

I support Cruz because of his positions on policy, no other reason. However, I do get really upset with the people who are outraged over rumors about cheating, which have been denied and not proven as factual. Then you have Trump where he’s bragging about cheating and sleeping with married women, and that’s OK with them.

That's a good analogy -- Trump seemingly has played this primary contest very much like a reality TV show, where how you win doesn't matter as long as you win. It you win and end up hated by your fellow contestants (and their supporters...) who cares? You won.

But politics isn't like that, at least during the primary. Because you end up needing the support of those opponents and their supporters in the general election. And as irrational as it may be for people to not vote for him out of spite, some people will do it anyway.

And that's not even considering that if he doesn't get to 1237, then how other candidates and their supporters feel about him is going to matter very much in those subsequent ballots. He may actually be blowing that right now.

100%

I’ve been talking about it for months. He’s got to knock this $hit off. His supporters in the primaries are not going to leave him no matter what he does. But he’ll need way more than them to win in the general election. WAY MORE.

If he doesn’t cHILL out, you know who we’ll get.

There are plenty of us who have shared this fear of Trump. I expected he would melt down long before now (so did much of the chattering class) because this is who he is. It is ironic that so many view him as the strongest candidate because he acts very insecure. An adult who continually goes out of his way to pump himself up has problems.

I am really disgusted with both of the front runners right now. Cruz is horrible in attack mode - comes across very petty. He screwed up when he abandoned his self-proclaimed “we are going to run on ideas not the politics of destruction” because the advisors told him he had to attack. He threw off his game, Trump’s game, Rubio’s game, and now I feel like we are sitting on the burned foundation of a house.

I am not feeling too positive right now. If people step out of the bubble of FR for a bit and talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers they will find out this has been a damaging month for whomever the GOP nominee is. All Trump had to do was act like a mature adult and I think he would have crossed the finish line. He seems incapable of it - almost like a reality TV script.

I don’t view this as a gladiatorial combat - it’s my kids future and I am really disappointed right now. I will vote against Hillary and said that before the first primary was held, but all of us should be disappointed in what has happened. Many of the debates were disgusting, but it turns out the candidates are also. That is my .02.

“It was a big deal because he punished Cruz’s wife because of something for which he believes Cruz is responsible. “

There was no punishment. Heidi is a public figure and probably is a lot bigger girl than some here give her credit for. She knows this comes with the territory. She’s handled it better than most Cruz supporters here.

The person who has handled it in the classiest fashion is Melanie, the target of the original smear. How is it the same “holier than thou” Christians here on FR are the smae ones calling Melania a “skank” and a “slut”?

Seems hypocritical to me.

“His favorability polling is off the chart bad. “

Lets be honest, as long as we are ignoring all the alternatives it’s just as bad for Cruz in the general.

The favorability essentially means nothing.

Wrong. It may be too late for any R candidate to win. Circular firing squads have a tendency to deplete unit strength.

But hey is his methods, which have worked, keep pansies from stopping the destruction of this country then that’s on them not him.

Stopping the destruction of the country has absolutely nothing to do with things like that retweet. He is engaging in completely unnecessary bottom-feeding. He could have laid off that and all the other stupid crap that he's done, hold the exact same substantive positions, and he'd probably get his 1237 and a lot of momentum going into the general election.

Taking controversial but necessary political positions is going to tick some people off. That's too bad, because you can't make the proverbial omelet without breaking a few eggs. The left hated Reagan too.

But at this point, Trump is basically opening up egg cartons and throwing eggs against the wall purely for his own vanity/amusement. And if he ends up losing the election because of it, you guys are going to be blaming the GOP-E and everyone else under the sun instead of putting the blame squarely where it belongs.

Your guy is blowing it, and I say that with no pleasure because I think that makes Hillary the next President.

” I’ve tried to warm to Trump, but then he goes and does something again that reinforces the reasons why I absolutely cannot stand him.”

I’m very much in the same boat. The repeated “lyin Ted” slander and his obvious peddling of the fake adultery story have made me a “stay at home at best” voter.

Again, too few alternatives. For instance who would have predicted Ted's NE problem a few months ago?? Considering that who know what game changer might turn up in the future??

Trump is gonna Trump.

Don’t ever expect him to be different.

A large part of his appeal is that he is authentically “authentic”. If he tried to be anything else, nobody would accept it.
