ANALYSIS: Donald Trump Grows Weaker, Setting Up Further Republican Chaos

By Rick Klein Apr 5, 2016

Wisconsin will go down as the state that turned the tide –- or that turns the minds of anxious Republicans to what might have been.

Donald Trump’s loss proves a point the anti-Trump forces have been making with varying intensity for months. He was blown out, losing broadly and decisively in a big battleground state, in a winnowed field and in a primary that was open to independents as well as GOP regulars.

“Tonight is a turning point. It is a rallying cry,” Ted Cruz said in declaring victory, in words that his erstwhile enemies in the Republican establishment would gladly endorse at this point in the race.

Trump’s support is stalling among Republican voters, and his failure to close out his rivals speaks to his potential weakness in a general election. Tuesday’s results show the GOP frontrunner can be beaten soundly in places where the case against Trump is prosecuted in a sustained way -– and perhaps helped along when Trump himself plays into those arguments with his own behavior.

With a Trump ceiling coming in to focus, his path to a majority of convention delegates has never been narrower. Strikingly, more than a third of Republicans in Wisconsin exit polls say they’d be scared under a Trump presidency, with another two in 10 saying they’d be concerned. Trump was uncharacteristically silent Tuesday night, as if he had nothing good to say. Cruz is by far the biggest beneficiary of the anti-Trump sentiments. Wisconsin delivered the kind of cross-demographic victory that, to date, only Trump has managed in an electorally significant state.

Is Wisconsin considered a swing state?

Yes, both Wisconsin and Iowa.

Here’s a fact for the anti Trump team...Trump has won 8 out of the last 10 primary contests. So how exactly is Cruz winning?

And if Cruz wins, that means the elite power hungry politicians win. How can anyone who respects America’s fierce independence want this to happen?

Prior to Wisconsin vote RCP poll had Trump up by 8 in Ca. which is now turning into a crucial win for either candidate.

Trump’s bad temperament and lack of preparation are becoming more apparent by the day.

Which is precisely why he refuses to debate Ted one on one. He is completely out of his element.

His abortion discussion was a wake-up call when he finally had to talk to his handlers in order to spurt out any sort of message.

Cruz got to enjoy his one “gimme”, handed to him by the Walker/GOPE machine.

You won’t see such a gift to Cruz repeated, outside of the epicenter of the Establishment run by Paul Ryan, Reince Priebus and the Scott Walker state machine.

After all, this isn’t the end of the hunt. We are moving into TRUMP country again.

“Yes, both Wisconsin and Iowa. “

No they aren’t.

Iowa has voted Democrat for over 20 years outside of the sort of win by W in 04.

Wisconsin isnt even on the radar, and hasn’t been for just about as long.

IF he gets the nomination and has to debate Hillary, she would tie him up in knots in under two minutes.

He’ll be weaker yet after he wins most of the remaining primaries!

“Even Kasich is leading Cruz in these next states, Cruz is polling last.”

And all Trump needs to put Cruz completely out of contention is 37 more delegates! Once that occurs, look for the GOPe to turn on Ted, since he’s outlived his usefulness.

Facts it seems are being ignored by the media, by the establishment and by some on here.

So cruz wins 2 out of 10, won what 4 rimary election states.
came third in 3 sdwing states
Never won a single county in the important swing states of FL, VA
I thought the purpose of running was to win, not to stop the the guy and pay off the delegates, but then again I am just a low info voter according to cruz which means Carson, Rubio who cruz wanted out and told their voters they were dropping out should have stayed in.

Hillary would prefer to debate Trump. But, you know with his penchant for treating women untowardly ...

We'll see- Trump has made some unforced errors and his sore loserman statement last night was ridiculous. I guess he isn't listening to Melania who told him to be more presidential.

GOPe had nothing to do with Cruz's win in WI, it was Conservatives.

I’m talking about you and your guy.

BETTER TO LOSE WITH CRUZ.

Is that not what the establishment is saying about your guy?
Are they not congratulating Cruz, not for getting closer to the nomination, but for coming closer to stopping trump?

You and your guys are the perfect tool of the establishment. Congratulations.

Hillary made Rick Lazio look like a bully and played like a victim in their debate. I can only imagine the theatrics of a Trump/Hillary debate.
