Yes,they are real loss prevention employees.Just as most of the nation’s security guards are unarmed.
The corporations have calculated that the costs of potential lawsuits for injuries and false arrests are more than the costs of employing,training,and properly equipping competent security.So the corporations figure “stock shrinkage” and theft into operating costs.My ex-stepdaughter was fired for trying to stop a shoplifter stealing an expensive item.
Most loss prevention and security are simply eyes and ears intended “to keep the honest people honest”.Those loss prevention employees can become quite frustrated knowing the thieves are laughing at them.It is somewhat similar to the crazy rules of engagement imposed on our military(having to ask permission to return fire,etc.).
If enough information is available(thief’s description,items taken,getaway vehicle details) the police will be called to confront/apprehend the shoplifter.
I also spotted this unfortunate grammatical error--making the tire iron an AGENT (by) rather than an INSTRUMENT (with).
The destruction of language sets up the post rational crowd to accept things as EVIL, rather than PEOPLE.
Companies do it all the time. At least target did when I worked for them. I decided they were going to get me hurt someday so I found another job and told ‘em buh bye.

I understand. The greedy fat corps want theft stopped for their greedy bottom lines, but they don’t want any liability which would affect their bottom line. So they tell the peon staff to go get the thieves while not providing the peons with any protection, safety or security for themselves.
Here is your handcuffs, go get them. If they happen to come at you with a knife or gun, that’s tough sh*t for you.
I would never take a position like that.
