Maybe Mrs. Smith pulled her wounded husband back into the car, to get him out of the line of fire. I, who have never been shot, can only imagine, that being hit even once in the back, would make the average person stand immobilized, let alone eight shots.
Is it me, or is everyone pooh-poohing completely the fact that the deceased player had dinner earlier that night with one of the cops who was a defendant in his father’s death?
That seems like one hell of a coincidence.
I’ve observed in accounts that shooting a large man with a 9mm gun may result in a lot of wounds, but a man still capable of a fight. (Not that the deceased man was going to fight)
Don’t know if it was a 9mm or not, haven’t delved that deeply into it.

If so, Mrs. Smith is one tough woman if she had bullet holes in both legs and was able to pick up her 290 pound husband and put him in the car.
First reports, especially those carried on the media, are often inaccurate.
If the statement is made on the media by a lawyer, the chances for inaccuracy go up exponentially.
Of course, mine were always the whole, complete and exclusive truth, designed only, solely and humbly, to assist in the public’s understanding of a complex, highly emotional and often sorrow-filled situation, to the complete exclusion of any other possible self-serving purpose. /s
That struck me initially, too, and I posted a comment saying it might have been premeditated murder. Now that it looks like Smith did not pull his (probably legally carried) pistol it appears even more that this was a premeditated murder, not road rage.
It just doesn’t jibe with the shooter then calling the cops. I think the family and the wife came up with a story, that on questioning, could create reasonable doubt
