Path to certain failure: NeverTrump + NeverCruz = NeverWin = LostSCOTUS = LostFreedom = LostNation

Posted on 04/13/2016 2:36:02 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Captain obvious here again, but NeverTrump/NeverCruz is not the way. We all have our favorites, but don't lose sight of the mission.

The mission on FR is to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our POSTERITY!!

It's a lot bigger than you or me or our personal opinions or egos. It's about the very survival of our nation and the promise of freedom for future generations.

Reagan said that freedom is never more than one generation from extinction and he was 100% correct.

President Clinton or President Sanders means the end of freedom in America.

Do not let freedom expire on our watch!!

Free Republic will support our Republican nominee whoever he is against the godless Marxist/socialist Democrats in November!!

I did not anticipate how hard I’d have to hold my nose, though. Eagles up!

Since Reagan's re-election I've resorted to this....since my fingers got cramped.

Eagles up!

good points sir.

i really wish/hope that these two guys would sit down, break bread, make peace, shake hands, make a yuge deal, and work together to make america great and trusted again.

both of them have a particular skill set that would do this nation a tremendous amount of good.

mostly, we need a spiritual awakening.

Franklin Graham seems to be doing a one-last ‘round the nation tour like Jeremiah trying to warn Jerusalem. I hope this nation listens.

I’d love it if Cruz is the nominee, but there is no way he will be. He has no shot to win the delegates in the remaining primaries and he has no shot at the establishment controlled convention.

The answer is for those of us with the longer view to ratchet up our disapproval of the NeverTrump and NeverCruz minorities.

I'm not talking about people we can influence. If the convention cheats Trump and Cruz voters, millions of people who don't read FR or any other movement conservative site, those people will be mad as Hell. Some will come around and support whatever yellow dog is nominated, but millions won't. That's the inevitable result of screwing over your base. Selling that turd sandwich to GOP voters in November... good luck with that.

Combine the lost base with the fact that a candidate with relatively unified support - Romney - still lost in 2012 and we face an uphill battle. I'm a Trump guy in large part because he changes the map. He's playing an all new game.

No one else running can do that.

So true. I was 100% for Cruz, but soured on him. I never liked nor trusted Trump.

BUT....I will hold my nose in November and vote for which ever one is nominated.

Hillary (or Bernie) must never be allowed to occupy the office of POTUS.

If Trump ones not reach 1237, then Cruz could, and likely will build a coalition of delegates to reach 1237. I can live with either Cruz or Trump, though I prefer Cruz. Ideally Cruz and Trump would get together, but I am not sure that can happen at this point. As a minimum they need to work together to retain Rule 40b to keep outsiders from jumping in late.

I cannot stomach Kasich since he is a Democrat in wolfs clothing.

Truth be told, the GOPe would love to have Cruz drop out now if they could be assured most of his support would gravitate to the Soros Stooge Kasich.

But they can't. By backing Cruz, some of them are taking a calculated risk that either (a)they can get their brokered convention and pull the rug on Cruz at an opportune time to put in someone they can trust like Kasich or Rubio or (b)they will be able to control Cruz with donor money.

It is entirely possible that Cruz understands this and is playing them. Think back to three months ago where Cruz and Trump were on the best of terms and wouldn't even criticize each other. It makes more sense to think that then was the real thing and now is the Kabuki Show rather than the reverse.

Look at it this way: In 2008, McCain was their designated loser and Romney or Huckabee was their back-up plan.

Now, the shoe is on the other foot.

I and many of FR members from the 90’s have been attacked for being liberals.
During 2008-2012, I too eager to throw bombs at fellow members if they disagreed with me.
I refuse to walk that path again.

Ironic that conservatives, who pride themselves on their love of country but who by remaining pure and refusing to vote for McCain or Romney have given us eight years of Obama and brought us to the brink, may finally be the ones to push us over the cliff by refusing to vote for Trump or Cruz or whomever might end up as the Republican alternative to Hillary.....

Glad you got a laugh not that I would not consider it insulting and the Cruz blame game is apparent to all. So much for respect to me as a fellow Freeper.

I know we may never see eye to eye on this point but I totally disagree that Cruz can’t get to 1237 and win it. It would be in the convention but it could absolutely happen.

If Trump gets it, before or in the convention, I’m all over it and will pull the lever for him in November.

But Cruz has an excellent shot at it and he’s one of the very few that will fight back against the enemy.

Remember, it’s the gope coalescing behind him, not the other way around. He has not compromised his core conservative positions.

how can you say Cruz blames Trump for everything? That is a laugh riot! You don’t hear Trump day after day saying he’s being taken by all these conspiracy theories?

He’s poorly managing his campaign and won’t take ownership.

Thanks for reminding the Trumpsters who will mostly take their ball and go home if he can’t win.

See my post #168. Last summer, I don't think any of us had an idea that either Trump or Cruz, let alone both, would get this far. Some of us were even resigned to a mealy mouthed putz like Rubio or Kasich who might at least slow down the gallop toward Gomorrah into a gait or even a slouch.

Now, we've got the situation that 85% of the votes and the delegates are split among the GOPe's two LEAST favorite candidates. Whatever you think about Trump OR Cruz, you've got to admit that both have played their hand with extreme skill to get to this point. Plus, they may have even had a little help from the Man Upstairs.

“Somebody please explain to me how Cruz can win FL”

He doesn’t ... he does not have a chance. All you need to know is how badly he lost to Trump here and how badly he is about to get beat in the NorthEast. Florida is the second home of the NorthEast.

What bothers me about Cruz is that he continues to throw NY Values and Mafia arrows at Trump so he can try to scoop another 4 or 5 delegates, not realizing (or caring) that every time he does this he is insulting more and more Florida voters. Instead of stepping down after NY, he will just fill up his bag of hand grenades and continue to blow up potential voters.

Cruz supporters are going to realize what a terrible mistake it was to run this civil war deep into July. You’re going to realize that, just like his bomb throwing in the senate didn’t advance any cause, he will have destroyed any unity amongst the same “squishy Republicans, Independents and crossover Democrats he is so badly going to need in the swing states.

At 8:01 on election night, because the voters he has insulted stay home, Ted Cruz will lose the great sunshine state of Florida, and with that, the election.

While you’re having a few beers to drown out the loss, you might do well to have a few shots along with it, because the GOP will lose Rubio’s Senate seat as well.

This is about Cruz blame game not Trump’s management. If you have missed his daily blaming Trump you have had your head in the sand. Even Heidi blames Trump for a story Rubio started. A little honesty on your part along with some respect might make you a better person.

That’s the tiniest pair of Vice-Grips I’ve seen. It’s so small (how small is it!), it just qualifies as a pair of Bad-Habbit-Grips.
