Cold greeting for Cruz at GOP gala
The Hll ^ | 04/14/2016 | Jessie Hellmann

Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz got the cold shoulder from a room of 800 Republicans at the New York City GOP gala Thursday night, receiving little interaction from the audience as he went through his usual stump speech.

Cruz, who followed speeches from rivals Donald Trump and John Kasich, began by making a joke at Trump’s expense that fell flat. “I haven’t built any buildings in New York City, but I have spent my entire life fighting to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights,” the Texas senator said, taking a shot at the GOP front-runner who, just moments before, spent the majority of his speech talking about his New York real estate successes.

Media at the scene reported guests walking around and talking during Cruz’s address.

When you say nasty things about New Yorkers without knowing all the people in New York State, the icy/cool reception that both Kasich and Cruz received from New Yorkers is 100% on the money!!! Me......I love all “Fifty” of the USA states and all our terroritories. I would never paint any sate or, it’s people with the paint brush of disgust and hate as Ted Cruz did to New Yorkers!!! What he received last night at the GOP Gala in New York City is nothing compared to what he will witness on this coming Tuesday at the ballot box in New York State.

IMHO, a vote cast for Ted Cruz is a wasted, thrown away vote. Trump carried the evening with his vast outlined NY accomplishments, in doing his part to make and keep New York City and State great again!!! Cruz has no clue about the entire fabric that New York is made of.....Support & Vote for Donald J. Trump on this coimg Tuesday, April 19, 2016 for GOP POTUS nominee!!!

"saw most of the Cruz speech on FNC and he received a lot of applause on various points he made. Cruz came across as much more "Presidential" than the other two...then the audio went haywire and it was difficult to hear clearly"

I agree that Cruz was much more presidential and showed he has a good grasp of many of the issues a POTUS has to deal with.

As for the garbled Cruz audio-IMO it was deliberate sabotage and a sign that something is up.

And while I have to say the first part of Trump's speech was good- more personal and a nice departure from his usual stump speech, I think if people were thinking clearly and really listening - they would realize that Cruz would make the better POTUS.

Further, I just don't get why people here think that abandoning conservative principles and our Constitution is somehow going end up saving our country ? Makes no sense.

If anything, IMO- letting the Constitution go will probably be the last nail in our coffin.

I think some of you would defend the Muslim Brotherhood if they were attacking Ted Cruz.

If Ted Cruz would attack the Muslim Brotherhood the way he attacks Donald Trump he would not be losing support like a broken jock strap.

Too bad Cruz’s strongest supporters are banking on these same folks to make sure he gets the nod in a contested convention - they’ll go from claiming it’s the system we have (yadda yadda yadda) to howling about it just ain’t right - hope they don’t break their necks with the sudden change of direction...

A vote for Lyin’ Ted is a vote for Lyin’ Ryan.

Yep, two leftist loons completely confirming the “New York” values Ted was talking about. That is, hatred of everything conservatives stand for.

In contrast, Trump reminisced about old times and old friends,
and told some interesting stories that the crowd seemingly enjoyed.

Good point. I don’t expect Canadian/Cuban stories would have
went over any better than the campaign trail talk did. JMO.

New Yorkers should ask the candidates:

Will Saudi citizens be allowed to visit America and learn to fly planes ?

Trump:  NO

Cruz:  ??   Ted Cruz rejects Trump’s Muslim ban policy

The voters in Texas said otherwise.

The 43.8% that cRuz got in Texas was the lowest support in a home state victory - on the Republican side - in a primary since 1912.

A record breaker.

Ouch.

He’ll be lucky to retain his Senate seat....or be elected dog catcher.

I don’t think that protester is talking to cRuz.

Hair’s too thick and short, and no double chin.

Given trump’s twenty something percent in Texas, I can understand why you would change the subject.

The Cruz backers here, are complete tools.

You're a very persuasive poster...words like yours put me in a fighting mood for Cruz that shall not abate until Trump is over 1237.

You’re on a pro-Trump thread here.

FR has become a pro-Trump site, dissent is not tolerated.

A constitutional conservative with solid pro life credentials gets the cold shoulder in New York City? There’s a shocker!

I applaud him for having the courage to show up.

>> FR has become a pro-Trump site, dissent is not tolerated.

Dissent is tolerated, but be prepared for pushback so vicious that you’ll feel like a heterosexual wearing a Leviticus themed tee shirt to a LGBT convention.

And about the same principles are at work: hatred, calling good evil and evil good, mistaking a popular trend for righteousness, and intolerance of any other view.

Chin up — press on. Right is right.

Trump's speech ... showed how he worked

I didn't know the role he played in building the Javits Center.

Neither did I. I thought it was a good speech. People who know him and what he's done probably didn't learn anything new, but from an outsider's perspective, he touched on

He has initiative, drive, ambition that isn't all for personal gain, he adapts - and in complex endeavors. I know it isn't directly evident from what he talked about, but he also seems to have an eye out for opportunity. I also appreciated that he attributed some of the success to luck, or factors that are mostly outside of his control. "Bad" neighborhood, low rent, becomes fashionable. And we know that he makes mistakes (or runs into bad luck, however you prefer to look at it), Atlantic City, and he deals with those, too.

I thought it was a really good speech. It held my attention much better than his usual stump speech. The country doesn't deserve him, and it is a shame that he's denigrated for giving a damn.
