On CNN this morning, Michael Smerconish confronted RNC chief strategist and communications director Sean Spicer about the validity of Donald Trump‘s complaints about a “rigged” delegate system.
Spicer insisted that the system is a “completely fair” one that has so far benefitted Trump and noted how candidates tend not to complain about states “until they lose them.”
Smerconish suggested Trump has a point about states overturning the will of the voters and pressed Spicer to say that the GOP nominee should be the person with the most delegates.
Spicer made it clear again that a majority of delegates clinches who the nominee is, not a plurality, likening it to giving someone a Powerball win if they get 5 out of 6 numbers right.
Smerconish offered him this advice/possible warning about the dangers of delegates denying Trump: “If you come out of Cleveland and you don’t have this guy’s constituency, you will lose in the fall.”

I have absolutely no problem with his statement that the “GOP nominee should be the person with the most delegates”....PROVIDED that the number of delegates assigned to each candidate is specifically proportional to the popular vote of the people for each candidate.
Abolish caucuses. Popular vote, preferably an open primary but that’s up to the party. VOTE not rigged decisions by party insiders!
Smerconish is not a “Liberal”.
Damn straight King Donald. Look at a map of the states and count the votes where people went to the polls. Cruz couldn’t beat Trump in South Carolina even. He has no popular support, just intrigue.
The Trchump camp does not consider the possibility of needing the supporters of the other GOP candidates. They are burning bridges far more aggressively than did Mitt Romney and other RINOs in the past. The Trchump campaign is the nastiest most disgusting thing I have ever seen in a campaign.
I don’t care what Smearconish says, I still hate him.

Couldn't prove it by me if he doesn't understand how the Republican primary process works....and has fallen under Trump's pitiful "rigged" mantra.

I took it as he was referring to CO, in general. Though, the GOPe does wield strong influence in nearly every state and does effect the rules making process in the states. The CO GOPe jumped the shark with the stop Trump “tweet”. That plays into the sense that the GOPe rulers pull the strings of the voting rank and file (and of Ted Cruz, of course.)
Another nice feature would be that the political party could make it very clear in those months after registration how delegates are chosen and when primaries will be.
It isn't just CO and WY. As near as I can figure out OH has a secret system for delegate selection. I wonder how many states have a system that isn't to varying degrees rigged to favor the will of the party elite.
Representative Republic-
As private organizations, the parties determine their rules, and everything that goes with it.
If one can realistically only get to the White House through the two-party system, how do we treat fairly the THREE parties in the election process?
How do we define our Republic when it comes to quasi, public-private entities like the Republican/Democrat parties?
We are not yet a direct democracy, as much as the Democrat Party wants to disband the Electoral College.
Voters get a vote, but the STATE also has a role to “cool the fires” of the mob.
A structure of direct, proportional, Voter-determined delegates PLUS some representation given to The System would seem to follow quite rightly.
So, Unbound Delegates selected by the the Party Bosses would make sense in a system run by the parties.
Unbound delegates selected by the State Legislature, with bound delegates selected proportionally by the Voters would give a more true representation of the will of the populace.
This fits a Representative Republic in my book.
