But this is their party not mine...

Here we'll disagree. Unlike your house, the GOP is my party. And it's that way because I say it is. This is not the old USSR, where one must apply for party membership and maybe get in, maybe not.

So I do not have to accept the GOP party rules. I can (and should) complain and moan when I find something I don't like. After all, it is my party.

Two final points. One, part of the blame rests with me personally (really). I was too busy trying to earn a living to pay much attention to these rules ahead of time. I got snookered.

And two, I've enjoyed our conversation. It's nice to have a conversation without any name-calling back and forth.

Regards.

You have no clue how delegates are picked. It’s not done before anyone has any idea who is running.

This is just breathtakingly ignorant.

What Trump needed was to have people run for delegate at their local caucus. Then have other Trump people show up and vote.

Basic idea. The people who try and who show up win.

ANY REGISTERED REPUBLICAN (affiliated for at least 60 days, or registered for 30 days prior) can:

- show up to their precinct and vote (I dont know the absentee ballot rules, I suspect not)
- run for the precinct captain
- run as a delegate to the state convention
- run as that delegate’s alternative

Sorry, There is zero reason to have all these convoluted voting mechanisms other than to game the system. I know it, and you, if you’re honest, know it too. Some states are proportional, some are WTA Oh, and we can change the rules at any time. Seriously, In my youth I used to play a drinking game with rules like this.

You still have no answered.
How does cruz work for those delegates.
The delegates were picked last year yes or no.
What month?
Now when did cruz and all th eother decide to run?

You said you have to work for the delegates while the voters are not allowed to vote for their candidate, so again how does cruz work for these delegates since last year when he did not decide to run along with others ?

Also why can’t you answer this.
My state say is CO and one of my sons is overseas protecting this country, Is he sent an absentee ballot to be allowed to vote for a delegate called John Smith who he has no idea about?

That is a question from my son by the way who is now marine.

Ultimately, in a contested convention everyone is unbound and there will always be horsetrading.

Agreed. As you noted, in a contested convention, delegates must eventually switch votes in order to give someone an eventual majority.

The problem is that many states allow a switch on the very first ballot. So a voter could end up picking a Paul delegate who never votes for Paul at all. That seems fundamentally wrong.

(By the way, I picked Paul in my example to avoid any Trump/Cruz/Kasich bias.)

so my son a marine who is based in a war zone is not allowed to vote for John Smith as a delegate who he has no idea about and the establishment and hacks and trolls call that open and fair?

No it is B/S and why I am so strongly against the establishment and their rules which suits them and their own power while being protected by men on the line risking their life.

BTW That was a question from my oldest son to. If you think the military members are not seeing what is going on then yo are naïve.

Now here's the problem. In quite a few states (for example PA, I don't know about CO), delegates appear on the ballot unbound and unconnected to any candidate. All the voter to guide him is some pamphlet put out by someone.

So you think you're voting for Candidate A's delegate, when you might really be voting for someone quite willing to go with Candidate B on the first ballot. That stinks.

It is not really that difficult. I live in York County and was able to easily find a sample ballot for my district and a guide as to who the delegates are supporting or how they intend to vote.

https://yorkcountypa.gov/images/pdf/ballots/townships/rep/York%20Twp%204-1.pdf

http://www.yorkpagop.org/

http://www.yorkpagop.org/Websites/yorkgop/images/Delegate_Voter_Guide_2016.pdf

Note that there is a meeting tonight that I may go to: “We encourage you to meet the delegates. The York912 Patriots will host a Candidate’s night for the GOP Delegate Candidates on Monday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Shiloh Fire Company, 2190 Carlisle Road, York, PA 17408.”

I would note that there are some valid reasons for delegates to be unbound. Let’s say that voters of the PA Primary vote for Kasich and he drops out before Cleveland (or they vote in the majority in my district for one of the candidates still on the ballot who have already dropped out of the race – Bush, Carson, Rubio – not likely but ….) or that either Trump or Cruz win the majority in PA in my district but completely implode by the convention. The delegate is then free to make an informed and reasonable vote at the convention voting for whom he or she thinks is in the best interests of the voters. That is the basis of a representative political system which is what we have – i.e. we are republic, not a democracy.

One could argue that this voter needs to educate himself more. I would disagree with that. Voting should be straightforward, and free of these Byzantine rules.

The rules aren’t that hard and I would argue that voters who are not willing to educate themselves should not vote – I would prefer they didn’t in fact.

Facts, facts.....so confusing for the so easily confused Trump supporters. It’s much easier to just sit back and screech “foul” than to bother to learn those facts.

Yeah, once you see Cruz for who he is, you can’t unsee it. It’s like the pic with a beautiful woman and an old hag. At first you only see the beautiful woman, but after looking for awhile the hag takes shape, and then, that’s all you see.

And yet there have been no issues since 1976 because the voters usually identify a candidate and give him a majority of delegates. Regardless of how the delegates are awarded.

That Trump represents a combination of no effort on the ground game with a singularly unelectable profile means that suddenly the identity of delegates matters.

tell me then instead of your snide comments.
When were the delegates picked?
What month and year?

When did all the 17 decide to run? month and year?

How did cruz get and work for those delegates to switch their vote to him?

Tell me as I am so ignorant according to you with your back handed snide comments.

Also tell me do military members in war zones get to vote for John Smith as a delegate in CO or PA?

the rules set forth by the establishment to benefit who they want and to deny the voters their right to vote. You happy with the establishment?

Nope, I don't particularly care how the RINOS have ruled in Washington.

But if Trump isn't smart enough to beat the "establishment" at their own game, when he had their rules as he entered the primary........then I think he's NOT smart enough to fight the really evil SOB's like ISIS, Iran, Russia, Al Qaeda, etc.

Do you think ISIS will play by "fair rules", or give Trump a "print out" of their plans, before they come to kill Americans?

Trump's playing a whiny political game we don't have time to play.

He had better get out and kick Cruz's/GOPe/Kasichs butts, as the rules tell him how to do, or he needs to get out....... because he doesn't have the determination or skill to be the Commander in Chief.

Tell you? I don’t have to tell you a damned thing. I’m not your lackey. Google it.

Besides....telling you Trump fans is a complete waste of time. I’ve seen others here tell you, inform you, present the facts and you just go on (and on, and on) to ignore what they’ve presented and continue with the BS per usual.

Not...playing...that...game.

why don’t you address the question.

When was these delegates selected month and year?
When did all the 17 decide to run? month and year.
How did cruz work in your words to have these delegates switch their vote t him?

bribe, pay off, blackmail, vacations, etc what?

Maybe call Rush and ask him for a talking point.

How about military members in war zones, do they get to vote for John smith as a delegate too?>

You have been posting on here defending the establishment talking ponts then answer seeing as no none else can.
