AP declares Cruz mathematically eliminated from first-ballot delegate race
The Hill ^ | April 20, 2016 | Jessie Hellmann

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz is mathematically eliminated from winning the GOP nomination on the first ballot, according to the Associated Press.

GOP front-runner Donald Trump is now the only Republican candidate who can clinch the nomination before the GOP convention in July, as there aren’t enough remaining delegates for either Cruz or John Kasich to reach the 1,237 threshold.

I think you missed the point of The Hill column, entirely.

Cruz has no delegates but his earned delegates on a First Ballot. There will be no Second Ballot.

Had there been a Second Ballot, the rest of the Cruz delegates will crater when they have visions of their own hypocrisy thwarting the will of the Americans across the nation who already chose their nominee. Obviously, it “ain’t” Cruz.

Wait and watch.

No delegate wants to call themselves a “patriot” when they are seen balloting against the people’s choice.

A little peek down there in the streets of every small town and big town in the country and looking into the faces of the people counting on them to work the will of the people, and not their own, then these fraud delegates will be embarrassed and ashamed, and will drop off from making fools of themselves, before the nation. And, doing it on LIVE TV.

Well if GOPe can stop Cruz they can surely stop Trump too. So let’s just all quit now then and elect Kasich.

Cruz was whining about how hard it is to run for POTUS (via email to his supporters) and Lizzie Warren called him out on twitter for his whining.

I seem to remember some Cruzers mocking Trump for what they called whining.

What goes around, comes around.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is banking on a contested convention come July to earn the party’s nomination, guaranteeing in a new radio interview that none of the contenders in the race will earn the required number of delegates before then.

So, of course, the tRUMPers will say Cruz should quit.

Just like Lincoln quit in 1860. Oh, wait... He didn’t.

The system has changed since the 1860s when you really did need delegates in an age where travel took days if not weeks.

These days the delegate system has evolved to serve as a rubber stamp for the establishment and it has been like that for most of our lives.

I heard that point as well. The NE is no place for Cruz. Ever.

He needs Kasich to pick up delegates for the next several contests, since Cruz himself is quite side lined, in New York state, and also can not steal so easily from here on out.

The public is on to Cruz. The candidates for delegate positions are now on to Cruz.

Many will simply reverse the steal. They will go in as Cruzaders simply to get elected in their district as a National Convention delegate, and then cheerfully drop Cruz on his head at the National Convention, if it even comes to a Second Ballot.

Same with the GOPE delegates working for the man. They will do the same and drop the despised Cruz on his head, happily, and go with the people’s vote for TRUMP.

Please post the vote totals from the state republican primary elections in 1860. I couldn’t find any.

LOL!

‘Bout time Cruz got out of the cocoon and sees the revulsion of both sides and all sides, top to bottom.

There will be no Second Ballot. Cruz will be embarrassed.

This isn’t 1860 anymore, the whole dynamics of our government has changed. Peoples are fed up with not being represented and politicians selling out America to the highest bidder.

These days it’s the elites and the system itself people are rising up agaisnt. 150 years ago, voters had faith in the system, today they do not.

“...No delegate wants to call themselves a “patriot” when they are seen balloting against the people’s choice...”

Exactly. You nailed the dynamic that would play out if the nomination were to come down to a second convention ballot which it won’t anyway.

Your post describes exactly what will happen; and if Cruz keeps this going and tries to force otherwise good people down this route it will only make him look extremely dishonorable for pressuring for this.

Thank you for this excellent analysis of how things would play out at the convention if Cruz does not take the path of an honorable man and drop out. I totally agree that this is what would happen. Not to mention that Trump is going to get there before the convention, and Cruz is hurting himself now by digging in his heels.
