Trump: You Bet I Support Raising Taxes on the Rich
Townhall ^ | 04/21/2016 | Guy Benson

GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?

TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.

That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements.  In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.'  But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes.  Just the opposite.  As we've seen on issues such immigrationabortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions.  His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy.  They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment.  Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts.  But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all.  Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types.  Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York.  Man of the people.

>> But go ahead war hero. Tell us what about your service.

I think you misunderstand him/her. I think all heshe is saying is that heshe is a libertarian who opposes spending money on a military capable of projecting force anywhere.

Not defending Trump, but I doubt his definition of ‘rich’ is the same as Obama’s definition of rich. Personally, I'm for a flat tax after a certain level of income - and I don't think this is ‘regressive’ at all. I also don't think it will happen, for many reasons, not the least of which is that those who truly are rich would likely pay more under a flat tax system, and because a there is a whole industry that is predicated upon the complexity of our tax code.

The gotcha articles are Cruz’s move for Indiana. It is the same strategy... They think the media is the vehicle to destroy their opponents and then they win by default...

The hedge fund tax has to do with taxes on gains instead of earned income.

Trump makes a good point here, this is an unfair differential in sources of income.

Of course a tax on revenue or sales is fairest, because it make the illegals in the underground economy ( ~10% of GDP ) participate.

I think I misunderstood him as well. A later post of his seemed to INSULT THE MILITARY.

Some people cannot express themselves well. Some people are just dumb.

I think he’s both.

I don’t send my girls into the restrooms with perverts

no one wants that

I just don’t think we need more government for this. And I agree with Trump on this, we don’t need special bathrooms made for them either. Talk about a big expense

The “military” isn’t the problem, it’s the war planners.

“Are we allowed to point out that we disagree with the positions he appears to be taking now that the conservative portion of the Republican primary is over?”

You can’t tell the difference between that and saying “Trump supporters are stupid?

”Every other post on FR has something about " Lying Ted"...or " idiot Cruzbots"....hmmmmmmmmmmmm This war has been going both ways and for the most part has been attacking Cruz...

From last year:

[Trump and Clinton] are both in favor of partial-birth abortion, taxing the rich [sic], and socialized medicine. Why take the Democrat pretending to be a Republican when you can have the real thing?

You have no problem with higher taxes? And no problem with the resulting higher spending either, I presume.

Good thing I kept this link open. (I’ve used it upthread for other liberals.)

And here it is for you...

Tariffs have always been a Conservative issue. The entire federal government ran on nothing but tariffs into the 1910s. I'd love to see it happen again Of course I'd you're an American hating globalits then you're all about unfair "free" trade screwing American workers over.

We all tend to get sucked into trying to make the world into a rubber room for the chillun, rather than teaching said chillun that the world will never be a rubber room so be careful around strangers till you know something about them. It may even be the Sunday School teacher who will do you the most harm, not even the flaming tranny.

And I expect FR 2.0 will praise The Donald with Trumpet voice.

Can’t be cutting spending. Must have more money to feed the beast.

Course, he may change his mind before I get this posted.

What’s even more remarkable is November is still months away. We’re going to have another half year of this, and then the bloody aftermath.

JIm there is NO contradiction in what Trump said today.

Just witnessing the usual congregation of the Cruz-club Butthurt losers hoping to ag-on another flame fest with Trump supporters, I guess.

I am going to get up and have a beer, the Rally starts soon!

Great point.

The poor have NO IDEA how much of their would be consumption goes to the imputed costs of regulations and taxes.

Example, mandated solar panels that makes energy cost .15 per Kilo watt hour.

Its already in Trump’s tax plan if you care to read it. I have. Plus he wants to end the “carried interest” loophole, which I strongly agree with.
