HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump's chief lieutenants told skeptical Republican leaders Thursday that the GOP front-runner has been "projecting an image" so far in the 2016 primary season and "the part that he's been playing is now evolving" in a way that will improve his standing among general election voters. The message, delivered behind closed doors in a private briefing, is part of the campaign's intensifying effort to convince party leaders Trump will moderate his tone in the coming months to help deliver big electoral gains this fall, despite his contentious ways.

In one day he backtracked on Abortion, Immigration, Taxes, and Transgender bathrooms.

Now it’s announced that he’s transitioning to a National Campaign, meaning moving further left.

Proving he’s the self-serving opportunist we always knew he was.

Rats are an important part of the food chain. Otherwise the subways would be littered with uneaten pizza.

kjam22 is a nasty pr__k.

Is this what we have come to? The preeminent site for conservative thought and discussion on the world wide web is now a low rent version of DU? I understand passions are at an all time high around here, I get it, we all have gone off the rails a time or two, myself included, but this devolution to the lowest common denominator must stop. High minded patriots are of least value when they wallow in the gutter. Be better than this.

He won conservative supporters over with “Mexican rapists” and gave himself a shot in the arm later with “Muslim ban.” Those shots against political correctness got his conservative supporters emotionally invested in him, and he doesn’t seem to have yet made enough gaffes from their perspective to undo any of that support.

His liberal supporters in the northeast know what he is and know what positions he’s faking, so that’s why they go along to give him the blue states.

The only Republicans who have won post-Nixon are ones who energize the Christian right part of the base and get the stamp of approval as authentic Christian conservatives. Reagan and Bush had that. Cruz has it. Trump does not.

The only time Republicans won the popular vote since 1988 is when they ran a candidate younger than the Democrat (2004). Cruz is younger than Clinton. Trump is not.

When my excuse was “But everyone one is doing it”, Mom used to ask me “if your friends are sticking their head in the oven are wanting to do it too”?

Well duh.

He'll say whatever he thinks will get him votes at the particular time he's saying it. As a general election nominee that would include a lot of stuff freepers wouldn't enjoy hearing.

We can just take it on faith that he'll be super great!

I read a blog entry once about Trump as a con man this election that was interesting.

In the Art of the Deal he has a section about con men. In it he pionts to Reagan as a successful con man - as someone with nothing of substance behind his empty smile and nice suit. He looked to Reagan as a success in politics because of it.

I think that’s what he’s doing here. In his mind Reagan was just a performer playing to a crowd who knew nothing about governing or the issues and Trump wants to emulate him. All this time I thought his commentary on Reagan being a con man was an insult, when in Trump’s mind I think it was a compliment. Trump wants to be able to con people as good as Reagan did in his eyes.

Trump going full RINO for the boys ?

How the hell does one get that from the article? Cruz ain't getting much in the way of favors with so many supporters who act more Dem than the Dems...

Did you hear the one about how Cruz told Kasich that he should drop out because he had no path to the required delegates to actually win the nomination? Turns out it was a real joke (on Cruz) because now Cruz can't win it either but he won't take his own advice...and he says Trump puts his foot in his mouth - priceless.

“Is this what we have come to?”

Yes, it is. It is a direct reflection of Trump himself. He’s the one that started the bomb throwing, name calling, innuendos without fact and the gutter trash that this primary has become. It’s an embarrassment really.

It could very well be that he is pivoting on his rock-ribbed conservative values in order to make him acceptable in the general election.

After all, the country as a whole has pivoted left greatly. Anybody remember when Dick Cheney came out in favor of sodomite marriage?

Or it could have been that he pulled the wool over conservatives’ eyes during the primary season, particularly in the more conservative parts of the country.

Since he is an outsider and has no record of governance, we won’t be able to predict if he’ll govern as a conservative or a liberal when it comes to social issues. And we won’t know until after 1/20/17.

But, regardless, since he’s the presumptive nominee, we have a choice:

- Roll the dice with Trump not knowing 100% whether he is the NY Leftist Businessman, a former leftist who has come to a realization that conservatism is correct, or a full-blown libertine in favor of cheap illegal labor, government health care (to spin off the costs from business), abortion on demand (or as demanded...in order to get rid of undesirables), and sodomy in the streets.

- Go with a dyed-in-the-wool leftist like the Hildabeast, where we know what she’ll do and none of it will be good.

Even though I’m not a Trump supporter, I prefer to gamble with the former than accept the sure-loser with the latter.
