Peter King: Trump is ‘more reasonable’ than 'hopeless' Cruz

Peter King on Friday said he would back Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump over Ted Cruz, highlighting the billionaire as a more reasonable general-election candidate than the “phony,” “hopeless,” “irredeemable” Texas senator.

King voted for Ohio Gov. John Kasich in New York’s primary, though he also correctly predicted that Trump would score a big victory in the state Tuesday. Similarly to the way he shied away from characterizing his vote as a Kasich endorsement, King stressed Friday that he isn’t endorsing Trump but remarked that he would choose the real estate mogul over Cruz.

“But Donald Trump, to be an effective candidate in the general election, has to show substance,” King told CNN. “He has to show that he's gone just beyond, you know, the name-calling and the sound bites and, again, he's not my first choice for candidate but he's got to show that he knows what he's talking about.”

I began supporting the guy but he’s such a disgusting and vile man that I couldn’t live with myself if I voted for him. It’s not that Trump is GREAT.. It’s just that Lying Ted is THAT BAD.

One example is when Cruz confronted Trump on his support for Hillary’s action in Libya and Trump told Cruz it wasn’t true when in fact it was.

You’re part of the Trump tribe because you’re a fearful person without thinking skills, thus making you vulnerable to any movement, even a movement led by an emotionally retarded idiot. But merging into the tribe tamps down the fear a bit.

You never supported Cruz because it requires a brain to understand arguments regarding constitutional principles and the proper role of the federal government.

The media loved it when Trump was “going after” Republicans, and they lovingly amplified his attacks. Just wait until he “goes after” their sacred cow, Hillary. You will see the greatest cacophony of anti-Trump howling since Hurricane Sandy blew through NYC. Now matter what “language” he speaks, it will be drowned out.


If they thought it was bad when Trump was running in the primary, just wait till the general. And, as we have seen thus far, Trump reacts very negatively to any criticism.

So does she. The difference is she has a sympathetic media on her side.

His supporters believe he’ll make mincemeat out of her in the general by telling the electorate how crooked she is. The general public already is aware of that and he’s not a great messenger to bring that up as he’s donated to her campaigns. It’s similar to the effect of Romney trying to run against ObamaCare being he was the blueprint for it in Mass.

You’re right. Cruz is not going to be the nominee.

A great many on FreeRepublic seem to have been overcome with the idea if you run candidates as liberal as Hillary and the Dems, then you can beat them.

What do you have after it is over? A super liberal person in government.

If electing a conservative was the objective, then we all on FR should have worked harder to get a conservative nominated. Instead, we divided ourselves between support for a NY populist and an immature lawyer who intellectually collapsed half-way through the campaign process.

So we're stuck with the NY populist. We have to play the hand we've dealt ourselves.

Only one thing really to say about the behaviour of Trump supporters. Makes me even more sure that I’m right about what he is. A politically clueless NY liberal who will say and do anything to win, including smear and belittle a good man like Ted Cruz and his wife Heidi.

I can’t ever support Trump after witnessing what he has done to Cruz, the one man who was capable of the task of rebuilding the Constitutional Republic.

In fact, it turned out to be a political win for Obama.

Win for Obama? Not that it did a lot of good, but the GOP in 2014 won the largest number of congressional seats since reconstruction.
