You make a good point, but understand that Franklin Roosevelt met the King of Saudi Arabia met on a warship in early 1945 right after Yalta.

The USA is in relationship with a nation whose citizens hate our country, too. So much they have committed acts of terrorism against it and put money into terrorism and above all preached the hatred all over the world.

Saudi money is propping up our national debt right now and Saudi money is all over our economy and so on.

And he acknowledges America's fears of being dragged into another European war without the EU. I would venture that we already have been dragged in - Kosovo, anyone?! He’s usually a very reasonable and intelligent man. He’s Christopher Hitchens brother. I’ve read some of his books before. Christopher was a well known and respected atheist. Peter is a defender of Christianity.

The British must understand that our government’s love affair with Saudi Arabia does not trickle down to the population. We despise the Saudis for obvious reasons. And, hey, it’s not like the Brits don’t do business with them. When I lived in London in the late 70s, the obnoxious and vicious Saudis were all over the place. That’s where I first learned to hate them.

The USA's only real special relationship is with Saudi Arabia, a 70-year old hard pact of oil, money and power, welded together with such cynicism it out to make up gasp. That's one hell of a truth bomb. And how true it is. There is certainly a masochistic quality to modern-day British pundits who blame America for everything they don’t approve of. Always victims. But, of course, they vote in the party that makes decisions that prove unpopular with the general population. Maybe, like us, they need to get better candidates for their various offices.
