Clinton, Trump stream ahead as rivals show signs of fading

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump surged Sunday toward another round of pivotal presidential primaries as their party leaders faced new questions about internal divisions that could complicate their nominees’ general election chances.

With less than 48 hours before voting began across five Northeastern states, GOP front-runner Donald Trump looked ahead to Tuesday’s contests in five states where he’s poised to do well and to a foreign policy speech later in the week. Republican challenger Ted Cruz, meanwhile, abandoned the Tuesday states and instead campaigned in Indiana, which votes May 3.

On the Democratic side, underdog Bernie Sanders, meanwhile, rallied thousands of voters in Rhode Island, looking to the smallest state in the nation for momentum even as he appeared to soften his attacks on Clinton.

Sanders is starting to face reality, but Cruz seems to be unwilling to do so.

Ted’s campaign reminds me of the Army of Northern Virginia’s final and long drawn out defeat. After the high water mark at Gettysburg, Lee fought a series of battles colloquially known as the Overland and Richmond-Petersburg campaigns. While Lee was able to inflict serious casualties on Grant in many of these battles, the ultimate outcome was never in doubt, culminating in the Appomatox Campaign, whereby Lee kept trying to flee the inevitable with the hopes of escaping Grant and joining up with General Johnston in a final attempt to defeat both Sherman and Grant as a sort of Hail Mary.

Ted is there now. He keeps ceding ground, NY, the Northeastern states and has chosen to make a final stand in Indiana. His ultimate hope is to join with the GOPe forces at the convention and try to deny Trump the nomination. Is it possible? Yes. Is it probable or realistic? No. The outcome is not in doubt, just the means as to how Cruz will meet his ultimate demise.

Hey I admire Cruz for having the balls to shut down the government but Fox News is so antiTrump it is almost unwatchable lately.

Chris Wallace’s FNS and the panels on the other shows today just STINK!!!

What happened to “FAIR AND BALANCED”?

Trump should get with Bill Clinton and promise Bill that he will hook Bill up with the hottest dates in the world , for the rest of his life , if Bill will file divorce papers against Hillary , right now , during the campaign season . And further , the Bill will begin to dish the real story on Hillary and her multiple and massive failures , lies and deceit .

Hot dates for life ....Would Bill say no?
Trump could crush Hillary in this way .

Cruz made no mention of Tuesday’s elections as he campaigned Sunday afternoon in Indiana, targeting Trump’s brash tone instead.

“We’re facing a choice. Do we want to be behind a campaign that is based on yelling, screaming and cursing and insulting?” Cruz asked.

Give it up Ted. Give it up.

Do you think in his current condition Clinton could even survive one “hot date”?

He looks like the walking dead to me.

“The people who run for office on the tea party or whatever else and say they will never compromise, they are basically denying the fundamental tenets of democracy,” Clinton said.

This is built on a solid foundation of ignorance. First of all, we don't live in a pure democracy. Even if we did, 50.1% would decide the outcome of any issue. There would be no compromise.

I love your analogy. Lived for a while in Hopewell Va and visited the Petersburg Battlefield . There is a beautiful chapel built by the Daughters of the Confederacy in Petersburg called Blandford Chapel. The stained glass was done by Louis Tiffany.
But the point is the battle was basically trench warfare...the biggest disaster for the North was the Crater where they used Pennslyvania coal miners to dig under the Southern Lines...but when they blew the crater there was no plan “B” and the soldiers ran across the open crater an were mowed down by the boys in Gray.
Thats Ted....going to get hosed in the Hoosier state...but if he is defeated will he do a LEE and run to another state or say...shoot this is not working...

The WP needs a confidential informant. let me suggest the nickname, “Tight Vajayjay.”

My little contribution to supporting the “tight” investigative reporting team of the WP!

I’ve noticed that too about Fox. I’ve started to watch Fox Business Channel a lot more. Lou Dobbs is really good and so is Charles Payne. I am disgusted at what Fox has become. CNN and the others are more fair these days.

I actually enjoy CNN and even MSNBC on occasion, compared to Fox. I feel like I’m in an alternate reality watching the primaries in those channels.

Excellent analogy. I just finished Jean Edward Smith’s bio of Grant and that is precisely what this is like. You started to wonder, in March of 1865, what the hell RE Lee was thinking? He wasn’t going to win, just cost more lives.

Cruz is going to need a big push. He’s like the guy who comes to stay and eats all the food, drinks all your booze and orders movies on pay per view.
