It brings a tear to my eye every time I realize the truth of this statement. I just had one for lunch today...100 miles from Phili. It filled me up, but it just wasn’t the same. One absolute necessity virtually impossible to find outside of the city is an Amoroso sub roll.

You’d have to be a native to actually prefer Cheez Whiz, to be honest. It’s not what most people outside of Philadelphia would want on their steak and cheese sub. Canned spray cheese product doesn’t exactly scream authenticity, it’s a big step down from even Velveeta to most.

When did Cheez Whiz come on the market, anyway? The seventies? Is there any other “authentic” food featuring an edible, artificial spray? Jello salad with Cool Whip is the only thing I can think of, but it’s not revered anywhere that I’m aware.
