To The Editor,
Two weeks ago the Stand Against Racism program presented a panel of black activists at the Honors College to talk about their experiences with prejudice. During the Q & A period an audience member asked the panelists what they wanted from whites who wanted to be allies to people of color. They didnt have to think for more than a moment before the answers came pouring forth. This is what I managed to jot down (paraphrased):
Come to our events.
Share our social media postings and flyers.
Link your organizations with ours.
Dont come to us looking for recognition for being good (given your pre-existing white privilege).
Fight white supremacy.
Listen. You dont have to inject your own ideas all the time.
Dont think your view can represent our reality.
Dont think you can make pronouncements on black suffering.
Dont expect blacks to educate you about their experiences; that is the ultimate in white privilege. We are too busy dealing with the effects of racism to educate you. Educate yourself. There are many books, articles, magazines, movies and other resources.
Be active, not passive. Interrupt racism as soon as you hear it. Even if it doesnt offend you, if it offends your black friend, just say something to the other person that makes them uncomfortable and makes them think.
I wanted to pass this information along, since I had wanted to know the answer to the question, What should I do to be an ally? and there may be others who had that same question.
Sincerely,
Melinda Nielsen
On the contrary, they're obsessed with it.
Uh, you're supposed to be in college, maybe studying or something wild and crazy like that.
Didn't know that black people ONLY deal with "racism" 24/7.
They don't have to go shopping, take a crap, get a job, raise their kids, find a place to live, or do anything normal humans do since time began.
Nope.
"Too busy dealing with racism"
I used to think the time for traditional black colleges had passed. Now I see it would be the best place for many of the whiners currently taking up space at our colleges and universities.
Honest to God, I'm tired of the whining and complaining from these losers. I would bet most of them simply can't hack the academic standards and are trying to find some excuse for their failures. Something drastic might have to be done.
Do you honestly believe black people would do the same for other blacks saying nasty things about whites?
Clearly, the author of this article thinks her and all other black people are saints and the great majority of whites devils. There's no way a sane person would write such an insane screed like this if they weren't.
I like that last sentence the best of the five.
How about we just ignore you so you can have your own reality. Just leave us out of your plans for taking any more of our money. LBJ’s reparation program, the War on Poverty, has taken over $16 TRILLION of mostly Whites’ money and poured it down the rat hole of subsidizing Blacks. But you are never satisfied. It’s not our fault you are Black, and we don’t care what you think of us.
To #6: “give us stuff” can be shortened to “STUFF IT”.
I’m not your ally, Melinda dear. I’m not your friend. I’m embarrassed you’re an American.
“Non Rattus Anus Rodentum”. These fools been worin whitey since the early 60s.
They want White people shining their shoes. Django, unhinged.
In other words, f**k off, honkey. Pretty much what I thought.
Answer - Who f’in cares?
LOL!
” Africa isnt a third-world hell hole because white people destroyed it.”
Mugabe and Amin just gave you the finger......
Sharpton: Gotta love them self-loathing spoiled brat
honkies!”
Well, that’s about the level of communication they are capable of providing.
YEP
I wonder, what if a Black spokesperson just said "forget all the social warrior BS, just help me get a good job and I'll take it from there."
I know Blacks with good jobs, and they don't waste their time wallowing in race.
“Dont think “your view can represent our reality.”
Right back atcha.
“SEVEN THINGS I WANT FROM BLACK PEOPLE:”
8. You’re not a victim, stop trying so hard to be one.
