John Boehner calls Ted Cruz "Lucifer in the flesh," "miserable" SOB
CBS News ^ | April 28, 2016 | Reena Flores

John Boehner sounded off a litany of insults for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz Wednesday night, labelling the Texas senator "Lucifer in the flesh" and a "miserable son of a bitch."

"I have Democrat friends and Republican friends," the former House speaker said during a frank on-stage discussion at Stanford University Wednesday. "I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life."

Boehner, who retired from Congress at the end of October, also let loose on the two other GOP candidates in the race.

Of his relationship with Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Boehner said that he was "my friend, and I love him" -- but with the caveat that Kasich "requires more effort on my behalf than all my other friends."

Boehner said he was on friendly terms with Republican front-runner Donald Trump, adding that he often played golf with the New York business mogul and billing their friendship as one between "texting buddies."

The ex-congressman seemed to accept that Trump would be the party's nominee and said that he would vote for him if that prediction came to pass. Boehner said he would not, however, cast a ballot for Cruz if the Texas senator won the nomination.

Boehner also weighed in on the Democratic primary contest, according to the Stanford Daily, the university newspaper that first reported Boehner's comments. The former House speaker praised Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as the most honest politician in the White House race. Of Clinton, who he has known for 25 years, Boehner called her accomplished and smart.

And he say Hillary is smart and accomplished. I guess she did accomplish screwing up the middle east.

The newest passenger on the TrumpTrain--the most pathetic, sniveling, back-stabbing, worthless, feckless Speaker of the House in American history.

Just keep telling yourself that Trump isn't part of the establishment, morons.

GMTA.

For me, this is a HUGE plus for Cruz.

This says a lot about Cruz and the GOPe. I have never thought he was part of the establishment and the inner circle of kingmakers and puppeteers. The fact that he got so far on his own without the backing of phonies like Boehner is amazing.

I would be hard-pressed to come up with a better endorsement.

I think that whatever Boehner may think of Cruz, he should not use such language to discuss him public

Or maybe he didn’t know that talking frankly to the author of this article will mean that his comments will become public.

Boehner, in his position should know better.

Screw Boner. This is disinformation designed to hurt Trump.

Or, you're dead wrong and should take heed of the hundreds of red flags re: Trump.

Peter King’s promise to take cyanide if Cruz won didn’t help Cruz that much in New York, so Boehner’s comments at Stanford probably won’t help Cruz that much in California.

On Clinton, Boehner’s reviews were more mixed. Early in the talk, the speaker impersonated Clinton, saying “Oh I’m a woman, vote for me,” to a negative crowd reaction. Later, he added that he had known Clinton for 25 years and finds her to be very accomplished and smart.

Boehner's a jerk but he's got Hillary's 'woman' number.

Cruz has been my top pick for quite a while. I don’t think he’s perfect. But I do think he’s a good choice. Unless there is some serious dirt on him that is not yet known, I will continue to back him.

Please do seriously consider Cruz. Look at his record. Look at what he’s consistently said throughout his career. Look at what he has fought for when NO ONE else was fighting. There are youtube videos of some of his speeches on the floor of Congress that are worth looking at.

The irony in the hate between two establishment figures albeit from different corners

I bet Boehner loves his running mate though

So he’s a Hillary voter, eh? Not surprised. He spend his whole career as speaking advancing the DNC agenda.

Read the article. He specifically said he will vote for Trump.

I meant if Cruz was the nominee, but I can see how my comment could be seen as unclear. My apologies.

Sometimes people react a bit over the top when a disappointment is almost overwhelming. I contributed to Cruz when he ran for the senate and in tbe beginning of his presidential campaign. My disappointment at seeing what he really wants is was almost viscerally painful.
