L.A.'s vegan vortex has angrily turned on the most prominent vegan restaurant group in town this week as word has spread that its owners are not just eating meat but raising and slaughtering animals at the working farm where they live in Northern California.
Matthew and Terces Engelhart, the husband-and-wife proprietors of favored entertainment industry haunt Cafe Gratitude, tell The Hollywood Reporter they've been receiving death threats as part of a quickly growing, internet-bred campaign against them. It has also spawned a deluge of one-star reviews on their local outposts' respective Yelp pages, a boycott group on Facebook that tallies 571 members at press time and plans now underway for a protest at the Larchmont Village location on Friday at 7 p.m.

They knew the mental set of their customers when they starting naming menu items “I Am Whole” and “I Am Humble”. These are not cultists, of course, but God help you if you turn apostate. Death threats do not surprise me in the least. OTOH, you don’t notice the normal ones. But then they aren’t trying to kill you.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cafe Gratitude is a small chain of organic plant based restaurants. There are currently two locations in the San Francisco Bay Area in Berkeley and another in Santa Cruz and three in the Los Angeles area, in Venice, Larchmont Village, and in the Downtown Arts District. There are additional locations in Kansas City, Missouri and San Diego, CA.
Owners
Except for the Kansas City location, Cafe Gratitude is majority owned and managed by Love Serve Remember, LLC (which also owns and manages Gracias Madre).
Philosophy and atmosphere[edit]
Cafe Gratitude is managed by incorporating the principles of Sacred Commerce, outlined in a book of the same name by Matthew and Terces Engelhart, who are also part owners of Love Serve Remember. Sacred Commerce opines that business can be a center for personal transformation as well as source of right livelihood. Sacred commerce outlines a quadruple bottom line for business referred to as PASS: Profit: Love of the business entity, Awakening: Love of Transformation, Service: Love of charity and Sustainability: Love of the Earth. Ultimately Sacred commerce is a system for using the work environment to culture one’s heart and experience more love.
Popularity
The Los Angeles locations are regularly visited by a number of celebrities, most notably singer Jason Mraz, who is also an investor in Café Gratitude and Gracias Madre.[2]
I believe that both Nick and Nate Diaz, two of the toughest MMA fighters in the UFC, are vegetarians.
There’s a Cafe Gratitude vegan restaurant in Kansas City. Coincidence or chain?
ISIS is murdering innocents in every fiendish way imaginable, they are on their way to us thanks to a total putz-in-chief masquerading as a president, we are overrun with illegals spreading murder, rape, disease, our rights as citizens are being handed over to illegals who are not eligible, and these people get this agitated over what people eat in their own house? Shows how far America has fallen. No wonder you have these brainless idiots on college campuses jumping back terrified from a name written in chalk, etc. No way could we survive WWIII with ninnies like this as a populace.
You wouldn't care because of white privilege. You are not capable of understanding.
This is now the left operates.
oh the irony- according to vegans, it’s ok to murder people, but not ok to kill animals
This article has a lot of things wrong. In Northern California, it was never marketed as a vegan restaurant, it was a raw food restaurant. They aren’t completely raw anymore.
It was actually a pretty good restaurants. At least the ones in Northern California.
The San Francisco location closed a while ago, and I think the Berkeley one has been closed for over a year.
Details?
Tell me more, so I know who to hate!
