STORRS >> The University of Connecticut is providing its students with therapy dogs to help relieve the stress of final exams.

The dogs will be available for petting at the school’s Homer Babbidge Library from Monday afternoon through Friday afternoon.

...

The school says it is keeping the dogs in a space that won’t impact students with allergies who may also need to use the library.

Three pups we bred do therapy. Noble dogs do that. Ours are standard poodles. Names: Morgan, white girl, Webster, apricot boy, Cleopatra, apricot girl. Cleo is in NM. The other two here in California

I have two grown children, I had dogs even befor I got married.
I have dogs because I trust them; I do NOT trust 99.998% of the so called human race.
I have dogs because for some unfathomable reason they like me.
I have dogs because they are not treacherous.
I have dogs because they don’t lie.
I have dogs because they don’t cheat.
I have dogs because they don’t steal.
I have dogs because they are loyal.
I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
They are not a replacement for children because they are not people; in most cases, they are better than people.

Funny, back when I went to college, we got by with beer and tequila to deal with the stress of finals week.

Actually, for my last final one year, it was Eco301 - Marxist Economics (yup, and it turned me completely capitalist) I actually brought a thermos of margaritas to class with me, so I wouldn’t have to go back to my dorm room to begin drinking.

It was a 3 hour exam, starting at 9am, and it had a 3 sections, the last being “answer 3 of 5 essays,” and they were so inane (leftist,) that I realized I needed tequila to help me come up with the essays. So I opened the thermos and poured myself a capful before 10:30. People started looking around to see what was going on, but nearly everyone had their own thermos. By the time I got to the third essay, I was completely out of ideas, and nearly out of margaritas. The last essay started out, “I really don’t know the answer to any more of these essays, so let me entertain you with a few jokes...”

I did get a B+ in the class without every actually reading an entire book by Karl Marx, just by reading the professor’s book, and books about the nonsense that Marx spewed. It pissed off my roommate, who was an economics major, and only got a B.

Mark

G-d bless you and your dog.

When I was recovering from surgery, I spent a few weeks in a recovery hospital, and while I was in with the short-timers, the vast majority of the people there in really bad emotional shape, feeling abandoned, lost, and completely alone and unloved. And that feeling was contagious. My way of dealing with it was to try and help other people there, because otherwise I was afraid I’d fall into the same frame of mind.

The one thing that brightened up everyones moods were visits from therapy dogs. The dogs seemed to know who needed them the most, and tended to let me scratch them on the head for a few moments. Normally, dogs love me, but I guess they realized I didn’t need them as much as others.

Do they still make ice cream there? I had ice cream and milkshakes there many, many years ago.

YES! Worth a trip from anywhere!

I have no interest in UCONN sports...but I’m a HUGE fan of their ice cream!

They also sell a modest selection of their own cheese and cage-free hen fruit. Good stuff!

I lived in Storrs as a child, and some years later moved back and went to what used to be called junior high school there. When I think of “milk shake”, I think of UCONN dairy bar. Salivating now.... 3000 miles away, now.

Oh my goodness. How wonderful. It's not in the old barn, that I recall as a kid, but in a newer facility.

Didn't they have dances at the old barn?

Do you know of Codfish Falls? I found it by chance, while tag-sale hunting. I was charmed. Intrigued by the name. ;D

Thank you Mark, I knew that there were therapy dogs all over the country. Our group has 350+ members and is growing all the time. We have groups that visit facilities all over the greater Houston area. We are constantly called to visit new places and folks seem to love us, most folks anyway, there are a few who don’t but we ignore them. LOL!

When I was a young teenagers, I got my ice cream and milk shakes at a new facility, it was not in the barn. When I was younger, my father would take me and my younger sister to all the barns to see the animals. We used to sled down a huge hill in the winter - I can’t remember the name. We lived at that time on Flaherty Rd. I used to walk all over the town, steal apples from the Univ. orchards, etc. Then for 9th grade we moved - my father moved way too many times, so I had an extremely disrupted and difficult childhood. I was always the new kid...

Codfish Falls sort of rings a bell - but not very loudly. :-)

Was Willington Pizza on your radar then?

Another great reason to drive out that way!
