Barnes gives what I think is a pretty reasoned account of Trump's victory. Surprising (especially for the Weekly Standard), but he kind of nails it here.

What went wrong????

Well for starters......

Being born in Canada to a Bat-shite crazy Cuban Father.

Having a North American Union supporting wife.

A Senate voting record that enables both the above and other Globalist agenda items (TPA and TPP)

Wearing the Bible on his sleeve.

Lying 24/7 about almost everything.....

there’s more....

“This backfired. Voters tend to be uninterested in campaign process. Worse, Trump insisted the nomination fight was “rigged” because delegates were being chosen undemocratically, without the assent of voters. Trump exploited this issue successfully for days.”

I don’t think Trump exploited the situation in Colorado as much as he exposed the corruption. Being able to bribe delegates and have them ignore the will of the voter, much less not even let people vote first, reeks of 3rd world politics.

Trump exposed the corruption, and he’s not even elected yet! (this has TPTB terrified.) Look for backroom deals trying to dismantle Trump and push Hillary. Just like with the primaries, the people need to stand firm with Trump no matter that the politicians and donors of either party do.

Congratulation Donald!

What a pleasure it will be to have an American president and an all American family who love their country in our White House!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Now we must all forget the fighting and bitterness, unite and support Donald.
We CANNOT afford another four years of Democrats in power. Obama has all but destroyed America. Another four years of a Democrat in the White House will finish us.

Donald will make America great- and respected again!

" What Went Wrong for Ted Cruz?"

Ted Cruz, is what went wrong with Ted Cruz.

Cruz fought a heck of a good fight. Was close but not close enough. The GOP has changed now for a generation. The GOP is now a populist and nationalist party nominating “outsiders”. Not necessarily a bad thing either. just very different.

..an inspiring constitutional defender degenerated into a petty politician who could not resist taking part in an all-out ad hominem war with DT.

The questionable campaign decisions regarding tactics and the people he associated with just added more reasons to turn away.

Ted Cruz's speech last night reminded me why I supported him. Also how far he had fallen.

Pray for the Republic...

“Cruz thought he could skip primaries in states that looked unpromising.”

... Except Trump did this regularly, making no effort in KS, ID, or CO, and little effort in ME or UT. So that doesn’t hold up.

“Over ten days in late April, Cruz went from six percentage points behind Trump (WTHR/Howey Politics) to 15 points behind (NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist). Trump won Indiana by 16 points.”

This is bad writing on Barnes’s part. I DO believe Ted crashed in the polls, but you don’t compare different polls to show it.

I think two other really, REALLY big things sank Cruz:
1) He got obsessed with what Trump was doing, vs. his vision for America, and that came off as 100% negative. He was NOT the “Reaganesque” happy warrior who kills you with a smile.

2) No matter how “legal” the delegate wooing was, polls show that it was overwhelmingly viewed as “theft” and “stealing” and unscupulous. This is PERCEPTION, and in politics perceptions are reality. The perception early was that Yeb couldn’t win, leading GOPe types to begin horse-jumping from Yeb to Christie to Marco to Kasich, then finally to Cruz.

Finally, the vaunted Cruz “ground game” collapsed when you had to do many states at once like the SEC, Super Tuesday, or two weeks ago. It works great in Iowa, or Wisconsin where you can focus all your resources, but not where you have to juggle multiple balls.

I think everybody on the GOP side started with the assumption that Jeb would be the guy to beat. A fair assumption.

I concede that Trump had the biggest impact on derailing the Jeb campaign. Where Cruz and the rest of the also-rans failed was timing. They didn’t adjust to the fact of Trump-as-front-runner soon enough. Waging a guerilla campaign against Jeb in a crowded field is a whole lot different than waging a conventional multi-state campaign against a recognized frontrunner.

Still, Cruz gave it a good shot.

What went wrong?

He sucks that's what.

This election ordeal vetted him, forced his true character to the surface. I cannot come up with any accomplishments on his behalf - yeah, the conservative lawyer stuff before coming to the Senate, which is what moved me to work & vote for him to get there. Myself and others liked what we heard, figured he had the right passion & energy, and were expecting him to be the foundation, the hingepin for a movement to build upon to tangibly slow down if not stop the Obama Regime. So we got him to Washington, and thpppt! Nothing. Lots of grandstanding, eloquent speeching, PR releases, but no coalitions, no organized tangible opposition action like expected, no results. Thppppt - a nothingburger for the past five years. Then when the pressure is on, and the rubber really meets the road, he breaks and runs right into the arms of the very people he claims to be working against, keeping that bit of info to himself until he plays the primary voters here in Texas for suckers. He's just a windbag, reeling people in with his constitutional siren song, but with no skillsets on how to actually make any of it happen. Total windbag, a skilled one at that since people are still falling for his story that he will accomplish something 'constitutional', someday.

A: Donald Trump.

Cruz had an excellent election strategy that beat the entire field, except a populist TV personality.

Now, let's finish off Hillary.

Cruz was spot-on right on the Constitution, its primacy, its sanctity. But he supported TONS of initiatives which even the almost-clueless could understand meant the destruction of the Constitution (TPA, TPP, North American Union, amnesty, 21 trillion dollar spending bill---not BUDGET, just extention---bringing in millions of muslim "refugees".

Cruz offered Americans NO SECURITY against the rising tsunami that is Globalism and a borderless world where our jobs and companies are EXPORTED and where millions of third-worlders are IMPORTED.

Cruz either DIDN'T GET IT, or was a STEALTH GLOBALIST candidate.

Under globalist rule, we are going to be able to sit around arguing the Constitution? Does anyone really think there will be ANY prohibition against, for example, abortion, under globalism, or that our globalist masters will maintain our second amendment??

The tide turned for Trump when he promised to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.

Ted didn't promise any free stuff.

What Went Wrong for Ted Cruz? In a word?

Chicago.

When militant leftists violently shut down a Trump rally and Cruz jumped on the “blame Trump” bandwagon, many Conservatives, myself included, were bitterly disappointed and more than a little angry. I continued to support him, but it was never the same after that point. I think that mistake, more than any others, took the wind out of his sails.
