Cruz, ending GOP bid, says 'we left it all on the field'

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, abruptly suspending his Republican presidential campaign Tuesday night after another crushing primary defeat to Donald Trump, assured emotional supporters in Indiana that they helped grow an “extraordinary” movement – declaring his team “left it all on the field” in their final push.

ADVERTISEMENT "It appears that path [to victory] has been foreclosed," Cruz told supporters in Indianapolis. "Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign."

The underdog candidate, who all along had vowed to force Trump into a contested convention in July, stunned supporters by dropping out following a big loss in Indiana. Some people in the crowd could be seen crying and hugging each other.

But Cruz indicated he has no plans to fade away.

“I am not suspending our fight for liberty,” Cruz said.

Full speech is worth listening to. Something of the Ted I used to admire shone through.

Like most politicians the farewell speech is usually one of their best.

Cruz dropped out at the right time. Time to let bygones be bygones and get after the Hildabeast, IMO.

But enough about Trump, what did you think of Cruz's speech?

While watching TC speak last night on the stage with his family, I wondered if Heidi wanted Carly to work off that $500,000 loan by permanently being the nanny for those two blond hellions that Carly loves so much.

Those are the two most un-appealing children of a candidate that I can remember seeing. Why did Cruz think it was a good idea to parade them?

I doubt bygones will ever be bygones between Cruz and Trump, not after this campaign. But I don't see Cruz doing anything to hurt Trump's chances. He'll eventually issue a perfunctory endorsement and then sit out the rest of the election. Next year he'll start working on his own re-election.

This was probably the only way to save his political career.

Had he stayed in and split the convention, he would have been blamed for a Hillary victory.

Should Hillary win, he can will be in the front of the line for 2020. Should Trump win, he’s young and can focus on 2024.

What’s to miss. Trump was a horse’s ass and will continue to be. With that said, time to move on, take out Clinton...must keep her out of OUR house!

I hope they primary his pasty white @$$. I simply cannot stand this phony SOB. If I hear that slimy snake-oil salesman voice of his again, it'll be too soon.

He didn't but I think that was a natural and correct choice. After what he said in the morning, any reversal would have come off as highly disingenuous, and therefore worthless. Cruz gets to save face, and Trump isn't stuck handling an obviously insincere congratulations.
