Donald Trump Won’t Self-Fund General-Election Campaign

Donald Trump won't self-fund his general-election campaign, and will instead create a "world-class finance organization," the presumptive Republican nominee said in an interview on Wednesday.

For a campaign expected to cost more than $1 billion, "I'll be putting up money, but won't be completely self-funding, as I did during the primaries," Mr. Trump said. The New York businessman, who did receive some mostly small unsolicited donations, lent his campaign $36 million of the $47 million he spent through March.

That plan represents a shift for Mr. Trump, who has for months portrayed his Republican opponents as "puppets" for relying on super PACs and taking contributions from wealthy donors that he said came with strings attached.

Who should small donors give money to?

The GOP congress who promises to block every Trump move?

I hope the enemedia puts Hillary's campaign fund million$ and her scam foundation's million$ (and her source$ by name) under the same microscope as they will put Donald's fund-raising efforts.

(.....little to no hope, actually, to answer my own question)

Trump needs to charge the networks for every interview. He’d get SuperBowl rates.

DON’T TAKE THE MONEY DONALD.

Yep. I started a few days ago. I’m happy to help Trump beat Clinton in November. :-)

Given that he’s the last man standing, out of 17 candidates (15 of whom are professional politicians), I’d say he’s operating just fine and making excellent decisions.

I started my monthly contributions to his campaign this week, because no one in their right mind would have expected him to self-fund a $1 billion campaign for the General Election. Or did you?

So Trump lent himself money for the primary...

Your point?

I started out donating to cruz and when I decided Trump was the more viable candidate, I started donating to him - if everyone that "backed/supported" someone 9or something) were to actually invest themselves then we wouldn't have some of the issues we do - too many folks expecting others to pay for what they want....

Just like folks who bitch about problems when FR has issues but never donate a cent towards keeping it up and running - lots of low-life leeches have nothing to offer except whines/moans/finger-pointing where it doesn't belong.....

All eyes on Hillary...

So Trump lent himself money for the primary...

Stared 6 weeks ago - when I make my monthly to FR, I also make one to a candidate (was Cruz for quite a while but is now Trump).

After my two donations, so far, I haven't received a single email/call/mailer asking for more money - refreshing.....

Your point?

I guess I need to spell it out. TRUMP LIED. He is going to pay himself back the vast majority of the money spent to win the primary but raising money in the general election. So he will be beholden to big donors (read the article, he is getting out his rolodex). That was a big appeal of Trump that he did not owe anyone... I guess now that he is nominee everyone is fine with him owing millionaire and billionaires favors.

And contrary to others on FR, I am not stupid- it get it, that is how elections are financed today because of direct elections. What my point is, why lie about it and say you are above the system.

“He can’t say he is not beholden to anyone anymore.”

He’ll be beholden to the Republican Party. Given that he’s been seeking their nomination for President, that’s hardly a surprise.

He contrasted himself with the other candidates for nomination, the top tier of whom were lavishly funded by a core special interest that clearly bough and received influence - that would have continued into the presidency if any candidate but Trump were to win the nomination.

LOL! No twist left untwisted for some who are miffed that Trump is going to be the nominee. He can't pay himself back unless his campaign actually raises the money - I'm helping by donating to put my money where my mouth is.

Trump said he wouldn't be beholden to big money folks and he kept that promise - he was fortunate that he didn't have to "loan" his campaign more than the $47 million or whatever it was.

On the other hand, Cruz had some very big donors that had ti expect something for their donations. In fact, it's ironic that after suspending his campaign on Tuesday, I got a "Cruz For President" pack in the mail today - with a pre-made check from me to him for $100 and a note that this was a real emergency request (all hundred or so pleas for more money have been such "emergencies" and many with the same note that "some generous folks would match up to x-amount of my timely donation.

You twist his "claim of not owing anyone" which was always "I won't be beholden to anyone for money" and ignore that Cruz may claim he had no strings but had a lot of "stringy" donations coming from those magical fund matchers....

I will take your word that you are not stupid, but he didn't lie - claiming an believing he did is......stupid.

You didn't read the part where Trump is going through his rolodex to get money from his rich friends...

Glad you donated to your guy- anyone can vote, money is a commitment

He also said he wants to raise money for the Republican Party.

I hope you donated to Cruz - I did for 5 months to the tune of over $500. Why do you ignore his backers and then try to trash Trump for doing much less as far as getting folks to donate? Trump said he could fund his campaign (not would) and he pretty much did that for the Primaries.

Why would you insist he be stupid and put up over a $billion of his own money to fight the $More than a Billion Hillary has in her war chest.

I get the sense I'm debating with a nutcase who has to be right no matter how wrong...

Won't waste any more time beating my head against that brick wall..

The RNC will give Trump a big chunk of change as they do for every presidential candidate. If Trump is raising some private money for the general election I have no problem with it.

Well if Trump had lost the nomination he would be out of pocket about $47 million and I’m sure you would feel very badly for him.
