New York Post: Sports Illustrated’s Caitlyn Jenner Cover Is An Act of Desperation
New York Post ^ | May 5, 2016 | 3:01pm | Kirsten Fleming

Sports Illustrated is throwing all of the laws out of the window and reportedly splashing a nearly nude 66-year-old woman across its cover to sell some magazines. So why is this prestigious sports publication banking on a nekked senior citizen to deliver the dollars and the buzz? If that imagery was such a slam-dunk, AARP would have built a franchise off the bare wrinkly bums of retirement-village-dwelling women across this great land.

The short answer is that this isn’t just any 66-year-old woman — it’s transgender activist and athlete Caitlyn Jenner, who will reportedly grace a summer cover in nothing but the American flag and the gold medal she won as Bruce Jenner in the 1976 Olympics.

Since transitioning from male to female, Jenner’s had an insatiable appetite for attention — something the media, including E!, is more than happy to feed.

And before everyone slaps a transphobic tag on this column, I’d like to clarify one thing: I’ve had a phobia of seeing old people naked since my parents subjected me to repeated viewings of “Cocoon.” Once you’re eligible for Social Security, put on your damn clothes. Yes, Jenner has the benefit of both having been an elite male athlete during most of her life and being fresh from the plastic surgeon’s knife. At a statuesque 6 foot 2, she probably has a better physique than say, my mom, who decades ago converted from Catholicism to Weight Watchers.

But just because something exists doesn’t mean it’s for public consumption. The only time “empowerment” should be attached to a Jenner or Kardashian nude snap is if a college degree emblazoned with the appropriate name is covering up their private parts.

A man dressed in women's clothing is not a woman.

Do you know when the issue is coming out?

I want to avoid the grocery store for a few weeks when it does. Don’t want to yak in the checkout line.

I’d rather see Visiting Angels changing adult diapers on TV than this crap.

Kirsten: Bruce Jenner is a 66 year old transvestite. Don’t humor his mental illness by calling him “she.” You don’t do him any good by doing that.

I have tried to figure out why Bruce Jenner is doing this. Is it because he feels let down after leaving the limelight of his Olympic career? Is he going through a mid-life crisis and, instead of buying a shiny new sports car, he’s decided to dress as a woman?

I don’t have the slightest interest in following sports, it just does nothing for me. So, I am not a subscriber to SI, swimsuit issue or not.

But I simply cannot understand how this does not blow off minimally 15% of SIs’ subscribers in one shot. Being generous.

I just never imagined that such a cover would appeal to the average SI reader. So the sports media is going all weird too.

Jealous of his step-daughters if you ask me. They are richer and more famous than he is based on nothing but big asses and a sex tape.

I think he wanted attention after being emasculated by those stupid Kardashians and this was the only way to get it....by becoming one of them.

If the magazine needs a tall old woman for the cover I vote for Julie Newmar.

More likely, he is a mentally ill latent homosexual,. and this is how he is screaming for attention and a free pass to take it up the arse from another queer. (just a hunch)

Well, okay. So an aging, non-attractive man is jealous of nice-looking women. He failed horribly—even nice-looking men make hideous-looking women.
