That will inevitably happen. As it is, the Olympic Committee can't even get countries to bid on the Games anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the end of the Olympics within the next 20 years, or at least they will be much different than what there is now.
First of all, there's too many events, they need to cut it back to at least what it was back in the 1960s/70s.
“Ever since professionals were allowed to compete the Olympics have become uninteresting.”
Zactly. It is just another version of our sports channels. With those annoying “Up Close and Personal” features which dramatically reduce the amount of sports shown.
I haven’t watched the Olympics since the early 90s and I do not miss it one bit.
A few Olympics back we happened to be in Toronto for several days so we watched the CBC coverage. Of course it was Canadian-centric but what was really striking was that it was almost entirely sports coverage. Virtually none of the “up close and personal”, “how she overcame adversity” filler we’re so used to here. It was very refreshing.
At least, we will never have to have an Olympics here again, they check for Y chromosomes.
It is unfortunate that Olympics have become political.

Jimmy Carter refused to allow the USA Olympic athletes to participate one year, after the athletes had trained for years and qualified to be on the squad. It was totally political because he was having problems with USSR.
Yes. I plead guilty to lazy posting. I checked after posting and saw that he was indeed a star at one time.
