The 16 black West Point cadets who caused a stir after posing for a photograph with raised fists won’t be disciplined over the image, the U.S. Military Academy said Tuesday.
An internal investigation launched after the snapshot surfaced online has ended with authorities deciding not to discipline the cadets, but to offer them additional counseling ahead of their graduation on May 21, West Point’s superintendent, Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen Jr., said in a letter to the academy’s student body this week.
“While the inquiry did not find that these cadets violated a policy or regulation, it did determine that they demonstrated a lapse of awareness in how symbols and gestures can be misinterpreted and cause division,” he wrote on Tuesday to the Corps of Cadets. “The impact of this photo, regardless of its intent, is evident. It is unfortunate that this perception brought attention to our Alma Mater for all the wrong reasons.”
West Point confirmed last week that an investigation was launched amid concerns raised by the photograph, which shows 16 female members of the Military Academy’s Class of 2016 posing in uniform on school property with their fists raised in the air.

When I was in the Air Force, anytime a General Swung by, s/he would spout platitudes so generic they were almost invisible.
What would happen if a bunch of cadets posed displaying a Confederate flag? How about if they had KKK hoods on?
I’m guessing that cadets posing with heil hitler salutes would have been treated differently.
Even though it is basically the same thing as a clenched fist.
They could not have proven the cadets’ intent. Without proving their intent, nothing could be done.
Whitey would have been thrown out in the street if he did the same thing.
But a man gets charged because his dog gives the Nazi salute.

It would suck if I had to serve under these officers who are more Social Justice Warriors than real warriors.
They should have their promotion timetables delayed six months to a year.
They would learn a valuable lesson.
These are NOT stupid college kids.
These are the best of the best, and they survived the rigors of West Point for four years, graduating in ten days as commissioned officers in the US Army.
They knew what they were doing and what they were saying.
And it certainly wasn’t “Thank You!” to the white folks who paid for their education.
This is just the weak-kneed administrators buckling down to PC and probably, a phone call from the White House.

Decades ago, someone I highly respect who is in politics told me - this “racial justice” movement is America’s cancer.
I didn’t quite get it at the time, but now I fully understand.
What do you want to bet that, had they been white boys, there would have been some serious punishment?
Just think of the poor CO who gets one of these black privileged gems working for him. They become untouchable.
