Five people were shot at a bus stop in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side.

Police said a group of people were waiting at the bus stop near West 71st and South State streets just after 8 p.m. Wednesday when several people ran up to them and opened fire. They fled in a getaway vehicle.

Oddly enough, I’ve been singing Billy Don’t Be A Hero ever since you posted the other song.

:D

And Terry Jacks Seasons In The Sun.

No idea why they form a triad of memories for me.

Maybe AM play listing.

You simply cannot expect police to go in there or they expect to be prosecuted. The answer is to execute these “terrorists” using drones under the guise of the “war on Terror” What is “Terror”?

There are “challenged neighborhoods” where a lot of decent people are trapped. Their houses have no value, and they don’t have the resources to make a move. Some of those neighborhoods, in the Cleveland area anyway, do a real good job policing themselves. But for medical appointments, shopping, entertainment? A lot of the people who live in those neighborhoods depend on the busses. Necessary services have mostly left their communities.

Is that narrow lane for bicycles? Looks like an interesting neighborhood to ride through at night.

Looks peaceful enough but surely lacks cover. A guy would have to put up his own wall of bullets for safety.

Hmmm. South Side of Chicago. Maybe an APB for bad bad leroy brown should be issued.

Leroy's been tamed ever since some guy's wife flirted with him. 'sides, West 71st is bad in two directions (south of 63rd and west of Cottage Grove) but is not the worst. Have to go a bit farther west.

There is a way...car jacking. I bet those would triple if the buses shut down. Besides, buses are inherently unsafe due to unbalanced weight distribution. None of the passengers will go to the back of the bus.

FWIW, around here, the bus makes a lot of sense. For seniors, it's only $1 each way if there are no transfers. The inconvenience of bus travel is miniscule compared to the hassle and expense of parking "downtown".

Just back from a weekend in Chicago, where I rode the bus several times. Traffic is fast and hectic, parking downtown is 35 dollars a day. The neighborhoods north of the Midway (Plaisance) are pretty safe and congenial.

The #6 bus from Hyde Park took me everywhere I wanted to go, it was fast, on time, and safe. 71st Street is well South of there, and deep in the urban jungle. Don't think I'd ride a bus there.

My sister had a Ktel album, hits of 73 or something like that. All three songs were on it. I think Kung Fu Fighting was on the same album.
