Donald Trump is making it clear he's not considering Marco Rubio as his running mate. The Florida senator is an oft-mentioned name as a vice-presidential choice for the presumptive GOP nominee. Speculation heightened after The Washington Post reported Sunday on five names that Trump surrogate Ben Carson suggested were under consideration.

Trump took to Twitter Sunday evening to dismiss those claims.

Kasich is an open-borders asshole who would never be invited to a State dinner. Trump already said Kasich is disgusting.

That’s good, because Rubio is not eligible anyway.

“Trust us OH folks. You really, really don’t want Kasich. He’s a globalist, pro-bank big government kind of guy.”

Also a big anti-gun jack-hole...he provided the swing vote to get Klintoon’s “Assault Weapons Ban” passed in ‘94. I can NEVER, NEVER, NEVER forgive him for cooperating to destroy our rights, especially with that sleazebag.

“Wouldn’t Huckabee be a better choice?

Better than what? Kasich? A poke in the eye with a sharp stick?

“Well at the risk of stirring up a hornet’s nest I would like to see him pick Newt. I think he’s probably the best qualified for the job.”

Newt has more baggage than Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

Rubio couldn’t win his home state, he’d be an anchor not a rocket booster.

It's kinda cute but a little sad the way you have total faith in the image of Trump you've created in your head. The way you believe he will act exactly as you would if you were him.

He's not you. And he's not a conservative either. He's a politician and all his decisions going forward from here will be based on whether or not it will help him win the election.

It will be Kasich or some other establishment toady that helps him move to the center. He's no longer trying to win over conservatives, he'll be chasing moderates from here on out.

“Now, wait for the Moonbats to bark, ‘Gingrich has more baggage than Delta airlines.’ “

Even we Moonbats bark the truth from time to time.

Carson to vet his VP candidates? Now, if Trump was vetting pediatric surgeons, Carson would make sense.

I would LOVE to see Palin as his VP pick. Trump has shown that he won't--and doesn't need to--follow the usual narrative. In fact, HE writes the narrative, not the media. Palin would be a stunning choice that would have millions crawling over broken glass to vote for the ticket.

I suspect Rubio was trying a barter some deal with his delegates. Trump sent a message he didn’t need Rubio and Trump was doing it his way.

“Well at the risk of stirring up a hornet’s nest I would like to see him pick Newt. I think he’s probably the best qualified for the job.”

I tend to agree with you about Newt’s abilities to step into the shoes of the POTUS. This guy is a deep thinker, has “just a bit” of a sense of history (being a retired history prof), and was (IMHO) the single guy most responsible for stopping Clinton and keeping at least a lot of Reagan’s legacy alive.

The downside is that he’s older than Trump, and also “just another white male.” I don’t see that latter as a big deal, personally, since those who would vote against Trump because he didn’t pick a minorority or a woman are not likely to vote for him in the first place. I personally place a LOT more importance as a voter on the VP pick being competent to handle the office of POTUS in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Newt will also give him incredible insight into the legislative process, and is himself owed a bunch of favors. I like also that Newt is very conservative, and will influence/educate Trump where necessary. Finally, I know that Newt will make sure that Trump is aware of this nation’s vulnerability to EMP attack, and that once aware of it and the relatively simple solution, Trump will address it and fix it.

My only question is whether Trump might be better off with Newt as the Chief of Staff instead of Veep. He can benefit a lot from having a qualified and younger woman or Hispanic on the ticket...but I definitely want him to pick THE MOST QUALIFIED person for the job, with color and gender being of VERY secondary importance.

I disagree, we don't need pols to vet pols. Imagine Romney and Weiner doing the vetting, no thanks.

Two old guys is two too old.

Even though both are high-energy.

We need a 45-60 year old in the #2 spot.

“Best all-around pick is Jeff Sessions.”

I like Sessions, a lot. But he is only 6 months younger than Trump, and is from a state that Trump will easily win. IOW, he won’t be getting him any new voters to speak of. Some might even be uneasy with 2 relatively old guys (no matter how healthy) in the top 2 spots...and then that bastard Ryan being the back-up.

Nope on Kasich - thoroughly anti-gun, he will cost Trump votes in many states.

Do you really believe Trump is going to take Carson’s vetting seriously? It’s smoke.
