Navy Secretary Ray Mabus says in a letter that he has the power to name warships as he chooses, in response to a former Marine and congressman who charges he has politicized the process.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican and House Armed Services Committee member, wrote Mr. Mabus to question the naming of an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer after former Sen. Carl Levin, Michigan Democrat and chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

There’s a solution to this problem, congress. State what the names of the warships shall be - or if you decide to be generous, give the secretary the option of choosing a name from the list.

I don’t have a real problem naming ships after Democrats, I mean they are part of our country, I don’t like it but aren’t you supposed to be dead first to be honored that way...?

Look for the SS Tojo and SS Doenitz in the future.

Part of the US apology for toppling the “unfinished work” of the bloody Nazis and Bushido loons.

When I first heard of this guy becoming a minion of 0bama's I remembered my old readings of Nostradamus. Mabus is closely associated with 'the anti-Christ':

Century 2, Quatrain 62
Mabus then will soon die, there will come A horrible undoing of people and animals: At once vengeance one will see vengeance, One hundred hands, thirst, famine, when the comet will run.

he used that committee position to pad the pockets of his contributors and supporters.

Isn't that what Congressmen and women do? Not like it's not normal behavior.

Sure, Ray Mabus may be a creep (or a creep's rubber stamp), but just wait until the new Army sec gets to name stuff...

USS Jimmy Carter

Well, at least he was in the navy, and was President, no matter how bad. However, I think it's inappropriate to name warships (or much of anything else for that matter) after folks who are still alive.
