The U.S. Air Force said Thursday a B-52 crashed on Guam shortly after takeoff, but all seven crew members made it out safely. No injuries were reported.
The plane aborted on takeoff and caught fire at about 8:30 a.m., Pacific Air Forces public affairs said in an email. It crashed on the flight line of the base.
The bomber was deployed to Guam from Minot, North Dakota, as part of the military's continuous bomber presence in the Pacific, The Air Force said. The crew members are with the 69th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron and were performing a routine training mission, it said.
The incident is under investigation. Officials were taking steps to mitigate possible unspecified environmental effects, the Air Force said. The Air Force has been rotating B-1, B-2 and B-52 bombers through Guam since 2004 to boost the U.S. security presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
A B-52 crashed off Guam in 2008, killing all six crew members on board. That plane had been flying around the island as part of Guam Liberation Day celebrations, marking the day when the U.S. military arrived to retake control of the island from Japan during World War II. The B-52 had been scheduled to conduct a flyover in a parade.
Guam is a U.S. territory 3,700 miles southwest of Hawaii.
I have been to Guam. I am unfamiliar with the Major.
ROTFLMAO!
Its clear? Oh dear.
I noticed you didn’t contribute anything related to the article and yet you call someone else a troll. Now that’s what’s funny right there. I guess the significance of Russian bombers “visiting” one of only four US bomber bases no less than four times escapes you.
Bears buzzing Guam was why I didn't get anywhere near the dive time one would reasonably expect while stationed in scuba diving heaven....
But do keep posting.
Untill the final zot.
That’s where you are sadly mistaken. On this forum a post directed at the number one post is about the article not directed at the original poster. Surely you have been around long enough to know that. It wasn’t a troll post as you have imagined and was directed at the danger Guam has been in for some time. They are literally at the eye of the storm. Just like my own base after 911, did you know there are twin towers at Wright Patterson. Some undesirables were caught taking pictures of it from the museum. If it has been anyone trolled on here it has been me. Once you realized I was a military veteran you continued trolling me. I’m too ignorant according to you. Yet I haven’t seen one nugget of wisdom from your vast knowledge of military affairs as you put it on this thread. I stand by my original post. It’s long since time we made an example out of the communist before they make a major example of us. Russian bombers circling one of only four US bomber bases several times should have already have been dealt with. Their recent activities are getting much worse. The same way the Chinese made a minefield of space. I risked my life walking too many inlets on a torched off Phantom to make sure the pilot and rio left on their mission and didn’t break up their group to be disrespected on here by another so called veteran. Well at least you’re a diver. My open water check out dive was some mudhole in Arkansas while stationed in Memphis, home of the King, lol.
