I know there are many old-timers on Free Republic.

Did any of you have any fun playing as kids without aquatic centers and hockey fields?

"The desert was my favorite place to play."

Spent six years as a kid in the Mojave desert. Scorpions, tarantulas, snakes and lizards. Loved it!

At a summit by the Aspen Institute’s Project Play

Let’s go hang out in Aspen and talk about lack of play opportunities in the hood. Sounds like fun.

Some people build their communities up.

Some burn theirs down.

I'm not responsible for that - get out of my face.

Socialist do like to do this kind of ranting and raving.

Remember when government didnt thinkmit was smarter than God and didnt think it was their job to make everything the same?

If fedgov just went away tomorrow, imagine how much freedom people would get back.

The “playgrounds” in my neighborhood are paid for by the SID’s or HOAs. Exclusively. The local residents pay for them. We work 8 hours a day, 52 weeks a year, for 30, 40 years or whatever. That is how we can afford them.

>>> “but in wealthy communities, there is a wealth of resources ...” <<<

A great reason for the redistrubtion of play. /marxism

City parks are by definition a local issue. Michelle needs to mind her own business.

Why isn’t Michelle pressing the neighborhood leaders to rally the residents and create usable parks? Perhaps they could increase the tax on drug dealers to fund the projects?

Seriously, Michelle’s rant is an indictment of the local residents who sit on their dead kiesters, complain and draw their welfare. This is a local parental issue.

re: “First Lady Michelle Obama: ‘So Many Communities Are Becoming Play Deserts’”

Answer: “Too many Negro communities where the Negro thugs and wanna-be thugs, with their illegal firearms, are ruling the roosts, and the rest of those communities ain’t got the guts to do anything about it, among themselves!”

They’re coming for the suburbs. In the minds of the leftist maniacs in DC any community that is wholesome is that way due to inherent racism and deemed in violation of equal protection laws. Your community’s resources will now be plundered for the benefit of the FSA.

Moochelle could send some of her White sycophants be-bopping into the neighborhoods and these kids could play the knock out game.

It’s hard to have a playground when the gangbangers turn it into Omaha Beach.

There were trees to climb, beaches to splash around in. An empty yard to build a marble game in, in fact we had about 3 places where we scraped away the vegetation and built our
marble “yards”. We built small hills, one even had a tunnel the marble had to go through. Lawn mowers became race machines, the mowers we pushed without engines. An old house we played kick the can. We didn’t have anyone teach
us how to have fun. Baseball was in “the” empty lot. We built our own stilts, and boy did we have some races.!

Michelle, lost in a wonderland of overachievers, just can’t make the connection that playgrounds reflect social values of the residents

in some places, playgrounds reflect the Tenth Commandment; in other places, not so much, as they become turf, to be defended, making them unsafe for child and parent

some U.S. communities are “play deserts,” because they don’t have sufficient opportunities for kids to participate in sports and other outdoor activities, compared to wealthy communities.

because her husband (no pun intended) has created a "jobs desert" all across America.

Meanwhile ....here is Michelle La Bell Antoinette Obama at the KABOOM facility on 9/11 last year (no pun intended) helping to assemble playground equipment for those poor children

And like her husband (more pun not intended) is leading from behind.

I see empty ball fields all over town. Why do parents, the school or government have to make it so kids play?

Whatever happened to pick up games? The only place I see that is the basketball courts.
