Sweden and Finland have taken part in their first-ever Nato foreign ministers’ meeting.
The Swedish foreign minister, Margot Wallstroem, and Finnish foreign minister, Timo Soini, were in Brussels on Friday (20 May) at the same table as their 28 Nato counterparts for a three-hour long meeting on developing closer Nato-EU ties.
Their participation was hailed as a sign that the two non-aligned countries are moving closer to Nato and US security structures.
"This illustrates both, the importance of Nato and EU cooperation and the vital role of Sweden and Finland on issues of common concern, such as hybrid threats and the security situation in the Baltic Sea," said Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg.

Why would we trust Finland?
Europeans have to say Trump Syndrome, or they'll be fired, taxed, then arrested.
Americans realize people in Europe who believe like us can't freely speak their thoughts without the threat of a lot of government unpleasantness crushing you like a hammer.

Trump is right
Finland knows that the Georgia or Ukraine invasions could be repeated there, and they suspect (with good reason) that the West will do nothing. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone in the West is losing sleep about Finland’s independence; as in 1940, they’re probably on their own.
A few weeks ago I read that if Finland were to try to join NATO, Russia would invade it???
I remember when Russia rolled in to the Czech Republic.
Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania could also be invaded.
Russia still smarting from the fall of the soviet union.
They want to start their shit again.

The timing of this smells of fear and opportunism. The US spends 3.5% of GDP on our military. The UK 2%. France 2.2%. Sweden 1.1%. Finland 1.3%. I hope Trump makes it clear the free lunch is over for our NATO buddies. They want in? Time to pay up! Want to STAY in? Time to pay up!
