In Illinois, and many states, public service has little to do with serving the public and everything to do with using the public’s money to serve politicians. Whenever we open the books, Illinois is consistently among the worst offenders. Recently we found Cook County animal control officers making $105,000; suburban school administrators at $503,000; university doctors earning $1.3 million; and 72 small-town ‘managers’ out-earning every governor of the 50 states.

All of which adds up to the reason Illinois is broke and nearly bankrupt.

Illinois is just the tip of the iceburg.

I think it’s pandemic in all 50 states and especially the fedgov.

Gee... If I had known; I would have gone into “public service” when I left the military; instead of working for a living. ;-)

This is insane. This is over 3 times the average income for people who DON’T have retirement benefits.

The level of destruction this wreaks on the private sector can’t be overstated.

You want to talk about income inequality? The end result is that through deficit spending and debts states/feds will never repay we’re pumping phony money into overpaid govt jobs that raise inflation for everyone else who earns real wages in the economy. It takes normal people making 30-50k a year and destroys the value of their dollar even more.

We’re making the jobs of those who actually produce anything (whether that’s physical production or ACUTAL service jobs that aren’t govt paid) worth even less per hour than the wage denotes.

This is crazy.

I think to make America Great Again, we’re going to have to make ‘public service’ public service again.

“This is over 3 times the average income for people who DON’T have retirement benefits.”

No kidding. Most people don’t have a pension, and these jerkoffs are millionaires.

Benefits for those in Middle America? What a joke huh? People get outraged over the private sector peons making 15 an hour, which is about 8 an hour after all the taxes? ??

Middle America is being economically gang raped by government at ALL levels.

No, no. They’re public servants ... giving service. They could earn so much more in the private sector but because they are big-hearted people, they want to serve you and I. Didn’t you get the memo?

“Middle America is being economically gang raped by government at ALL levels.”

Yup.

Currently there’s two Americas:

Those who get a gov check.

Those who don’t.

Wisconsin may be in better shape with a surplus budget and all bills paid.

42 million gov workers.

50 million on food stamps.

10 million “disabled”.

95 million not working.

And just think, there are over 22 million government employees today. For a population of 310 million, that's 1 for every 14. Do we really need that many to "govern"?

BLS Stats

This is also why gov shouldn't do charity, social security, etc.. Most money goes to the employees not to the "needy".

Would you donate to a charity that had about 90% administrative overhead? That's what you get w/gov.

In 1997, on the first day of what would end up being a 7 year contract with the US Feds, the 500lb Manager brought me into her office and proceeded to tell me exactly how much money she made and how many great benefits she had. She then lectured me as to why, saying “this is because it lures talented people (her) out of the private sector as public servants - and so that we are compensated as such!” Yeah, I knew the whole theory since age 8, so I just smiled and nodded. She turned out to be the most unethical and corrupt bureaucrat that I’ve ever known, just short of her bosses. She retired at age 57 and sucks off a comfy $45k per year while painting at her mountain cabin. (If the apocalypse ever strikes, i have a backup plan. :) )
