Energy: The EPA’s proposal to increase the amount of ethanol that must be blended into gasoline is a trifecta of regulatory abuse. It will do nothing for the environment, it will do nothing for energy security, and it could wreck millions of car engines

Because the EPA is Nixon’s worst idea, has become a power-hungry mob of anti-capitalist Gaia worshippers, and cripples the U.S. economy, it should be condemned as a danger to the nation and should be abolished. The states should be in charge of their environmental issues, as the Tenth Amendment intended.

This is not an environmental issue, it is a power-hungry regulatory issue. This does nothing beneficial for the environment. It will be detrimental as cars were not designed for it, will malfunction/break. Bad.

The EPA needs to be pruned back to its original charter—protecting the environment. Anything else it does is not justifiable.

They should have shot Wickard, and sent Filburn to Congress.

What would be the point of increasing ethanol, when no vehicles can support the 15%?

The Federal government has declared war on the individual some time ago.

I hope you don’t have pre-ignition problems with it. Most cars are designed for 87/88 octane.

Ethanol mandates are nothing but a corn subsidy for farmers. 15% ethanol means you burn 15% more fuel to go the same distance, how can that be saving anything?
Time to end all subsidies, and let the market work.

The Obamatollah may not be able to finish his "Fundamental Transformation" of America buy turning the USA into
an Islamo/socialist third world toilet, but he can give us a parting shot by wrecking millions of our personal vehicles.

This is good business. The “fat cat” corporate farmers will make even more money through government directives and that will ensure the farmer’s votes as democrats even stronger.

Remember, it’s a small step in the right direction to save our planet from a fiery hell from global warming. /Sarc

It’s “Cash for Clunkers” without the cash. Destroy the engines, get the older vehicles off the used car market, artificially stimulate the economy by forcing more new car sales.

Alcohol raises octane. Race cars have run on alcohol only

[It will be detrimental as cars were not designed for it, will malfunction/break. Bad.]

It will wreck cars that were made before GPS was installed in them.

I only run non-ethanol premium in my car.

Running non-ethanol is not a bad idea if you can find it. Paying for premium in most passenger cars is a waste of money unless the manufacturer requires it for your engine. The only difference betwen premium and regular is that premium gas has a higher octane rating. The octane rating tells you at what compression ratio the gas will begin to combust. Ergo, higher compression engines require higher octane fuel. Most racing engines run 110 octane race fuel.

Alcohol has less energy than real gasoline. It takes more gasahol than real gasoline to go the same distance.

In careful study in my own cars, the gas mileage drop is between 18% and 23% depending on the vehicle/engine combo.

I only buy real gasoline these days, no matter the cost/gallon.
