The Supreme People’s Court of China today passed legislation that will ban Chinese women from marrying non-Chinese men, with the law coming into effect at the beginning of 2018. The policy had been fiercely debated for a number of months before it finally won approval from the required number of legislators earlier today. Civil rights groups in China have condemned the restriction, pointing out that it discriminates against women by still permitting males to enter into interracial marriages.

I can see why they did this.
Not that I agree with this; far from it.
But, with the excess of males due to the one child policy, they want to allow males to marry foreign females, but ensure that Han Chinese females will marry Han Chinese males.
IN short, males have a problem finding a bride their age in today’s China, while females have no such problem. They try to solve the problem by allowing men to marry outsiders but not women.

This is at least as racist as anything South Africa was accused of. I expect all American businesses and institutions to divest and cease business dealings in or with China forthwith.
The irony is Chinese parents get real upset if their son marries a non-Chinese, but on the flip side don’t care if their daughter marries a non-Chinese (expect a Black, the Chinese are very racist against Blacks).
Actually Chinese parents are very happy when their daughters marries a White guy.
White guys generally treat them better. But not always.
Please do not hold your breath until they do so.

Holy crap! What an imbalance! Especially for boys from poor areas because women are expected to marry above the stature they are born into.

Kind of makes sense. I was wondering who the other race might be, and it would be foreigners who are not subject to Chinese domestic law
This policy has the advantage of keeping Muslim men from marrying Chinese women. Non-Muslim man marrying Chinese Muslim woman is not likely (there ARE pockets of Muslims in China).
Fortunately there are plenty of wonderful ethnic Chinese ladies in the US ... but don’t visit China with your wife if they someday start treating them the way they treat pandas....

They can’t restrict the men. Too few women there.
