Well drat on the heat! But at least you’re finding fun alternatives to spending time outside. :-)

Hi Luv! Nine of 10. I missed Lolita, not a fan of Nabokov.

As a teenage boy back then, I had no idea who Nabakov was....but Lolita....hey, she was a hot chick!

All I could think of was either a song or a novel. I never had any desire to see the movie. Ack!

Well, that sure helps! I don’t think it would help me with the soccer question, though! Soccer is so far off my radar! LOL!

The book by Vladimir Nabokov is a masterpiece of pitch black comedy. Stanley Kubrick's film takes liberties with the book and was subject to the censorship of the era, but it captures some of the blackness. The pedophilia is horrifying, even when initiated by Lolita herself. Shelley Winters, James Mason, Peter Sellers and Sue Lyons are superb.

HBO did a new version a few years ago with Jeremy Irons that stuck closer to the book. It was horrifying in its own way. Lolita's tragic end was slighted in Kubrick's version, but it's front and center in the HBO version.

Wish this storm would have rolled over us because it had a lot of rain with it. We got a little from a cloud that rolled by a little afterwards at least.

This as the best still I got from all the short video clips I shot. It was a nice storm to watch roll by just before sunset.

Well, I don’t know his books, but Evgeni Nabokov was a fairly decent goalie.

I can’t imagine it being considered any kind of “comedy”!

Shelly Winters must have been a great actress...she was one very annoying person in all of her roles. LOL!

Wow! That one looked dangerous whether it was or not! Very good catch of the lightning strike!

I recommend reading the book first. It gets into the mind of Humbert Humbert, the professor of English who boards with Charlotte Haze and becomes infatuated with her daughter Lolita. It's one of the seminal works of the Fifties.

Then rent Kubrick's film version. Its sexually charged imagery will stick with you much the way Kubrick's work in "Dr. Strangelove" sticks with you.

Then check out the Jeremy Irons version.

These are three different views of the same subject.

I had no problem with the FIFA World Cup question. England defeated West Germany in the Cup final, 4-2. To this day, wben England plays Germany in soccer, the English fans chant “Two World Wars and one World Cup!”

There were a couple of nice forked bolts but they washed out completely in the videos, durn it.

The storm was only about a mile and a half away and I was surprised when Hubby went out to join me for a couple of minutes. He’s been struck before and generally stays inside when lightning’s close by.

I guarantee any German or Scotsman wouldn’t have picked England for that answer out of principle, since one of the England goals shouldn’t have counted.

I know, I know, Henk, and you're a fine example of the lonely 1%.

I just never could get into or enjoy soccer, to bland, too slow moving.

And having witnessed the popularity of it while stationed in Germany for many years, it does remind me of why I was happy to return stateside.
