Top conservatives meet at secret dinner to discuss Cruz's future
The Hill ^ | 6/15/2016 | Jonathan Swan

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.

The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruz’s future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.

Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.

The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.

According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.

Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.

There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.

Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruz’s unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagan’s failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

Good that you didn’t forget. Congrats on quitting.

Come visit, summer is just beautiful.

No, he needs to end his career in the Senate, because he didn't do anything while he's been there but just stir his own pot to our country's detriment.

Cruz has a 100% voting record from the American Conservative Union. He can't do much, given the Senate's domination by Dems and RINOs. Who would you replace him with?

Congratulations on kicking the coffin nail habit, doll!

After twenty-six years of suffering through my own two-pack-a-day addiction, I finally quit for good and for all back on 07/01/02 -- a full fourteen years ago, in just another two weeks! -- thanks to the only thing that ever ended up working for me: the nicotine patch. When I think of all the dough I wasted on trudging up to the counter and paying for those two packs daily, all those years... *ack*. ;)

You'll feel so much better, for having done this! We're all PROUD of you, Onyx!!!

Best post I’ve seen on this thread. These Trumpists with complexes are hardly extending a welcoming hand. :-)

Thanks so much and thank very much for telling me you feel so much better. I finally started feeling short-winded and that's scary! That $10 per pkg was also a factor. I brought 5 pkgs with me and still have 1 remaining. (I always save 1 of everything ... LOL). I've been here since the 17 of May, so you see I didn't smoke very many daily anyway because I was cutting down. I have patches too, but I have not needed them. I bought the gum and patches together at the New Orleans CostCo last year. XOXOXO ((Ken))

I've been stuck in the house with the cat and my Louie. NO transportation, but that's about to change. School is out on the 21st so I can bum rides with my granddaughter's friends. IIRC, teenagers always need gas money and I'll just want rides to and from Dog Beach daily. Today is finally a lovely, WARM day, so Louie is going to get a bath and dry in the sun. ((XOXO beautiful Rita!))

(((onyx)))

We have almost two weeks. :) This is a tough time of year. There’s so much to do.
The gardens, the yard, the vegetable plants, cookouts, parties. It’s endless.

Mr. T is going in for an MRI next Thursday, I think. He’s still in agony from the time that he lifted Dinah into my SUV after one of her treatments at Tufts. She weighs 75 pounds.

Dinah has to go for an MRI at about the same time to see how much the radiation therapy shrank her tumours.

It’s a bit grueling, but this site is important, and not just to me. It’s a rare conservative voice that truly matters.

Oh! My gosh! Dog Beach. Yea, for Louie! How far is Dog Beach? Gee, school is sure late with dismissal. We need to pass the hat and rent you and Louie an Escalade.

Yes, and it’s still early there. Already 6 here!
