And what would prevent you, or tens of thousands of others, from going over the border to a neighboring (free) state and buying more mags, and then claiming that they were “pre-ban.”

Nothing at all unless they were date stamped like the ones I bought and the date was post-ban. I simply didn't want to wait and since traveling is out of the question for me for the foreseeable future I wanted to have them shipped to me. The pre-ban date stamp should work in my favor too if things go sideways for me. ;-)
