Rep. Jolly drops out of Florida Senate race as Rubio speculation mounts

One of the top Florida Republicans running for Marco Rubio's Senate seat announced Friday he's dropping out of the race, fueling speculation that Rubio himself is preparing to reverse course and seek re-election to the seat.

Rep. David Jolly, who indicated earlier this week he was getting ready to bow out, confirmed Friday he will seek re-election to the House.

"It's clear the opportunity to change Washington, to do right by my community, is to simply ask for the opportunity to keep doing my job," he said in a statement.

The move comes as party elders increase pressure on Rubio to reconsider his decision to leave the Senate at the end of the year. Rubio, after denying interest for weeks, recently opened the door after the terror attack at a nightclub in Orlando.

I don’t get it. Rubio said he was reconsidering running for reelection because of the terrorist attack. So if not for the attack, he would be out? I don’t understand his reasoning. Hopefully he explains.

He wants to protect his homosexual friends. Got to wonder if he was there and managed to get out early.

That actually would explain a lot. With the rumors about Rubio and gays, well, could it be that after a massacre of gays, he feels a renewed calling to be in public office, and run for reelection??? Could be.

The Senate Conservatives Fund has endorsed Ron DeSantis. I don’t really know much about DeSantis, and whether he would have a shot at the nomination if Rubio jumps back in, but if DeSantis is against amnesty, I’m for him.

He got some internal polling that showed he might be able to win....

If Florida puts that guy back in office, they might as well be abused women welcoming their abuser back.

Robot Rubio failed to show up for votes, said Senate was not worth his time and that he disliked the job. As member of Gang of 8 he pushed for amnesty. It would be stupid to vote again for him.

Isn’t Jolly the asshat that said he wouldn’t allow Trump to campaign in his town or something like that?

my sense is that Rubio runs and perhaps win. should Trump win, he appoints Rubio to a cushy ambassadorship or something. then Rick Scott gets to appoint the new Senator, who will be Rubio’s buddy the Lt Gov that he screwed out of running. Just watch and see.
