WASHINGTON — The next base Christmas party might not feature any active-duty flutists or tuba players.

The House on Thursday passed legislation sponsored by former A-10 pilot Rep. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., that bars the military from using its many troop bands to entertain at dinners, dances and social events.

The bill limits performances to formal military ceremonies and funeral honors.

It is the latest attempt to cut back the roughly $500 million that the Defense Department spends annually on bands, which date back to the birth of the country’s armed forces but have recently run into criticism as Congress wrangles with tight budgets.

And friend of mine is the commander of the US Air Force Band in Japan. She says the band's do anything lot for morale and as ambassadorsuch for the US. This is yet another example of what budget cuts are doing to the military.

so Russia can have massive parades, we can’t even have bands. More examples of a Muslim President being a hater of his own country.

An Army band would play every time we sailed in or out of Yokohama in the 1950s. I wonder where all those MSTS ships are today ?

Somewhat tangential but a President Trump can and probably will “retire” all the generals and admirals Zero promoted. The military may just be the easiest way to end “ the fundamental transformation.”. One assumes the current crop of perfumed princes should be growing anxious.

How far should we go to support Trump in this? Well, I would even be willing to put the uniform back on if they have trouble finding conservatives to help out. Somehow I doubt Trump would have to look for help in this matter that he would ever need my help but I am willing to make the sacrifice.

The balls and the dances ARE the social events that make the hardships worth going through for years.

The military “pomp and circumstance” have - sice the Babylonian era, the Greeks and Romans, the middle ages and the Napoleonic wars, been what builds the social “attitude” and morale behind the armed forces between the troops and the officers and their wives behind them..

“The roughly $500 million that the Defense Department spends annually on bands”

Well, that may help to offset the expense of the multitudinous Obummer vacations, though I doubt it would also cover Moochelle’s millionaire-and-billionaire type wardrobe.

****************

And yet another example of the insanity in the U.S. congress. If they want to cut spending then how about starting with some of the expensive perks and benefits that the congress get?

You know how many good tubas $12,000 will buy? Two.

I bet there's a clause in there that allows The President's Own to still play at the White House.
