My dad did, too. He’s the one who got me interested in space when I was a kid. He’d take me outside when they were passing over and I was hooked.
Many fond memories of sky watching with him.
years later I would listen to space station on shortwave radio
lookup lunar occultations and drag up yer trigonometry.

Must have been really cool to listen to the Space Station! I didn’t realize they could be picked up on short wave.

Whew! I went outside with my VERY heavy telescope and got an excellent view of the moon and saw some stars that were still waaaaaaay off. No planets to try to view tonight, I guess.
I’m going to have to get more practice with that thing! I just wish I had one window that wasn’t obscured from the view of the night sky by our trees. LOL!
Might be a little difficult to see it since it’s over Malaysia. :-)
We can’t see anything from inside the house either due to trees. Gotta go outside and down the driveway a little ways to get a good unobstructed view of a lot of things.
Isn’t it neat to aim the ‘scope towards a “blank” spot in the sky and see a gazillion faint stars?
The Caravan in this case is set up for skydiving. It's used to take the jumpers to 13,000 feet quite quickly and then descend at around 5,000 feet per minute to beat the jumpers to the ground. Needlessly to say it's quite a trip. So ya, might be going for it. On good weekends you're flying twelve hours up and down.
Oh, well. If it wants to be difficult. LOL!
It is neat. Would be way neater if there wasn’t so much city light to mess up the darkness. LOL!

One benefit to living in the country - - no city lights.
Humidity can put a damper on seeing the dimmer stars and clouds tend to mess us up more often than I’d like. Especially on meteor shower nights.
But on a good clear night, the Milky Way is very visible across the sky here. In the cities, I never saw it.

Yes, when I used to spend time with my aunt and uncle who lived on a ranch far from city lights, it was a splendid sky. Wish I had the telescope then. They moved into town to an assisted living place and my uncle then died.
I loved the countryside there. It’s also close to where my grandparents lived for many, many years.
