The "Leave" campaign won an unexpectedly decisive majority in Thursday's referendum on Britain's EU membership. So why do Brexit's biggest backers already seem so discombobulated?
Commenters described "Leave" icon and possible next prime minister Boris Johnson as "rather pale" and "uncharacteristically subdued" the morning after.
Nigel Farage, the leader of the U.K. Independence Party, spent Friday morning distancing himself from the "Leave" campaign's promise that Britain's EU funds would be redirected to the National Health Service; and Tory European Parliament member Daniel Hannan admitted that renegotiating Britain's relationship with the EU wouldn't actually decrease immigration.
Sorry, "Leave" voters who wanted to either curb immigration or fund the NHS! (That's pretty much all of them.)
Across social media were reports of "Leave" voters waking up with buyer's remorse. Some were counting on a "Remain" victory and wanted only to "send a message" or press the EU for reforms-a bit like playing a game of chicken with 64 million people's hands on the steering wheel.
The United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU can't happen until the country sends the EU an "Article 50 notification," a formal announcement that it intends to withdraw. That notification starts a two-year countdown during which Britain and Europe negotiate the terms of their separation. At the end of two years, regardless of the state of those negotiations, Britain's out.
So who sends the notification, and when? Neither the EU charter nor the Brexit referendum specifies. (The vote was nonbinding, although both sides assured voters their decision would be implemented.) Prime Minister David Cameron could plausibly have done it on Friday, but he didn't. Such a step, he said, should be taken by his successor (probably Johnson).

It will happen.
I’m not believing this crap being put out by libs the world over. The vote was taken and certainly Cameron and doofus Boris are taking it seriously. If they want to totally destroy their country, let them take a second vote drawn out over an eight month period. Yeah, that’s the ticket to success!
One possible scenario is that Boris Johnson is elected, negotiates more favorable terms with the EU, and holds a second referendum based on these terms.
It could happen.
It already happened. All over but the carping by the
One-Worlders.
This is all very much like the idea that technically the Electoral College doesn’t have to elect the person who was elected at the November general election. Technically, and constitutionally that’s true. But practically speaking, it’s a nonsense that would not be tolerated by the people.
Brussels’ Commissars won’t agree to give UK special treatment in exchanging for staying on.
There is going to be a divorce so best to make it a quick and clean break.
This is a couple trapped in a cold, loveless marriage who could barely stand each other. Time to get it over with.
Neither the Conservatives nor Labour is going to take actions to exit the E.U.
If they start to think that France might leave too, then they’ll quickly change their tune.
Thatcher predicted the EU would fail.
I believe 4 more countries want a referendum. Now the only reason for a referendum AT THIS POINT...is to get the hell out.
That’s what I think will happen.
There is an attempt to analyze the Brexit vote into oblivion, where it doesn’t really mean anything, or if it does, it means that a “leave” vote actually meant a “remain” vote.

The Tories will be finished if they don’t leave.
No, there are no more favorable terms with the EU and it would destroy the entire idea of referendums.
the modern generation may be a wishy-washy population, but I have a strong hunch you can only push them so far before a major upheaval will happen. And if the people don’t see changes they expect actually happen within a reasonable period of time, watch out!

Kind of like US states that ‘claim’ to have dumped Common Core and replaced it with something ‘much better’ that happens to look EXACTLY like Common Core.
Kasich and Jindal are the biggest frauds in this, although Texas isn’t far behind (even though we never officially took the bait in the first place).
