The Pentagon on Thursday lifted its ban on transgender service members serving openly in the U.S. military effective immediately, as Defense Secretary Ash Carter cited a need for clearer guidelines and the ability to maximize the military's all-volunteer force.
Senior military leaders had sought more time to fully develop and implement the complex new rules, arguing that the department was moving too fast, U.S. officials told The Associated Press. The move ends one of the last bans on service in the military....

There really is not enough of them in the population nor the service to cause any problems. More symbolic more than anything as was the gay ban. This will get swept aside at later date as the military is dealing with bigger issues now.

Great, now Manning can get his sex change operation at government expense. I recommend that he be granted it immediately after every veteran and active duty person has had all their medical needs taken care of an there are no more vets in line for any type of medical treatment anywhere. How and where are these trannies going to “serve”? I don’t see how they are even deployable-they need to take hormones to maintain their gender delusion-are they just going to bring that stuff along into a battle in the middle of BFE in the tanks and transport vehicles?
Normal service members are considered non-deployable and discharged with a disability for everything from needing anti-rejection meds for a transplant to anti-depressants for mood swings, so how will the brass explain allowing someone delusional AND taking hormones and whatever else daily to be deployed-this is beyond ridiculous and offensive to anyone who has ever been a service member or the spouse of one...
