SAS soldier takes out 3 Isis jihadists 'armed only with Gurkha knife' in Fallujah

A Special Air Service (SAS) soldier armed with just a Gurkha knife reportedly stabbed to death three Islamic State (Isis) jihadists who attempted to capture him in Fallujah. SAS soldiers are believed to be fighting Daesh (Isis) in Iraq and in Libya, advising counterparts and occasionally taking part in combat.

The SAS has been operating in Iraq for years, assassinating high-level jihadis and assisting forces fighting Isis. Earlier in June, an SAS sniper stopped two men from carrying out a car bomb attack with only one bullet, according to reports.

The Daily Star reported that a soldier was caught in a stand-off with the IS fighters with an Iraqi team after the jihadists ambushed a factory in the embattled Iraqi city. The newspaper says that they killed several Iraqi soldiers and seriously injured four.

The report say the soldier was pinned down by enemy gun-fire and quickly ran out of ammunition, leaving him with just the famous kukri knife held by the revered Gurkha soldiers. The 27-year-old had apparently been handed the knife by a British Gurkha soldier.

One SAS source told the Daily Star on Sunday: "As soon as his ammunition was expended, the IS gunmen tried to storm him. As they went to grab him he unsheathed his kukri and began slashing away.

"He decapitated the first gunman, slit the throat of second and killed another with a third blow. He then sliced away at three others. The IS gunmen fled in panic allowing the SAS soldier to carry the injured men to safety."

The report is the latest in a long line of under-sourced and unattributed reports of dramatic killings of IS militants by coalition forces fighting IS. Each of the reports cite unnamed sources and cannot be independently verified by IBTimes UK.

"He expected to be killed but thought he'd take as many of the enemy with him. When he was reunited with Iraqi troops they thought the he was seriously wounded because he was covered in blood but he explained that the blood wasn't his.

"He cleaned his knife, grabbed some more ammo and then led another Iraqi special forces team into battle," the source told the paper.

A recruit for Donald’s guard. I don’t trust the home team.

I’m amazed Trump lets the SecServ anywhere near his operations. I’d steer clear until taking office and purging the Baraqqi partisans.

The writer is confused. The Ghurka knife is a slashing weapon as described in the body of the story. The choice of the word “stabbing” reflects the ignorance of the use of the weapon, the lack of understanding of the information gathered for the story, and casts a shadow on the credibility of this journalist.

Has the ISIS leadership at the Off-White Hut yet condemned this barbarian?

A kukri can be used to stab. Sure, the tip of the blade is off the line of thrust and feels awkward until you get accustomed to it, but it's not really an impediment to stabbing at all.

But, as the author reports, that’s not what happened.

I prefer some of the Thai and southeast asian hilltribe knives. Some are similar to a Kukri, but a less hooked. Usually around a 10-12" blade.

A kukri works fine for slash, chop and stab. The curve of the blade permits a neutral, straight wrist for stabbing vs a typical straight blade knife that requires bending the wrist for a direct thrust. There is sufficient mass in the blade to behead or chop off a limb with a single motion. Some care is due as the moving mass of the knife may well find in buried in the leg of the user. That's a mistake you make once.

There is only one area in which I consider myself to be really knowledgeable. That is clearing light to medium brush and small trees.

The best all around tool is a machete, specifically the U.S. Army surplus ones made by Ontario. There are lots of others which are OK but none seem to equal those surplus ones.

The other tools are a double edged axe and a buck saw.

Tools that are not very good are hatchets, bowie knives, Kukris and any folding knife. The Bowie and Kukri are too thick no matter how sharp. There are a few jobs they would do but the machete is far superior.

Same for the woodsman hatchet. Actually the carpenter’s hatchet is far better for cutting small trees. I have always liked the double edge axe as it is better balanced than the club axe plus it has two edges.

The one thing I do to the Ontario machete is wrap the grip in athletic tape as it gets slippery when your hand is sweaty.

I know nothing about fighting knives and will not give an opinion on that.

Just so. Anyone who has ever seen the little guys perform their *Khukuri Dance* has some idea of the chopping stab made with the tip of the blade, if not the in-close stab in which the full weight of their body is used to run the blade right through ribs to the heart. neither are they shy about using the butt end of the knife as a stunning blow to allow the follow-on delivery of a killing stroke.

I certainly respect and admire your experience and definite opinion. However, I disagree to a considerable extent:

The story reminds of a YouTube of Russians vs Muslims, shows where a Russian in Moscow (?) beat the heck out of a Muslim gang of same size.

In the mid 60s I spent an entire Summer removing roots etc. from a field at Eglin. This was after the bulldozers had finished. There must have been 30 of us high school boys working for minimum wage.

I just had a melanoma removed from the back of my neck and I suspect that Summer had a lot to do with it.
