Except that Guccifer hacked Sid Blumenthal’s account, not Hillary’s server.
They probably wouldn’t know if the hacker remained stealthy which would have been wise.
Also once inside it is easier the overcome the security systems of the whole network.

Reminds me of the guy who was convicted in the ‘70s for paying a bribe the politician was acquitted for accepting.

Computers regularly log lots of information about usage. There is usually a trail of info that could piece together a description of a naive intrusion. Thing is, it wouldn’t be a naive intrusion: any state sponsored or competent hacker would take great pains to remove all evidence of intrusion, easy if the server is configured as ineptly as hers apparently was. This is precisely why there are laws prohibiting such use of unsecured systems: only those configured, by expert system operators, for strict access control and monitoring (logging) of use should be used.

He was extradited from Romania to the U.S. where he was indicted on federal charges.
In May, 2016, he pleaded guilty to 2 federal charges. He is currently awaiting a September 1 sentencing in an Alexandria, Virginia jail.
He claims he hacked Hillary's server, but federal investigators claim they found no evidence of that.

Nonetheless, hacking her server is probably why he’s behind bars here.
Sometimes someone is imprisoned official not for the actual offense, but for some other charge that sucks.
I have a hunch that Hillary did have a secret, highly protected email system where she could talk freely with people, such as Huma or Sidney. Would love to see the emails on that.
He was not precisely indicted on anything to do with Hillary, with one possible exception "hacking a former presidential advisor" who is unnamed in the indictment....and who very well may be thought to be Sydney Blumenthal by those trying to draw a line to Clinton.
Unlikely we'll ever know...except maybe if and when Guccifer gets sprung from Club Fed he writes a tell-all book and make million$ of dollar$.

According to Snopes, Guccifer is “still in his cell at a Virginia jail” and is very much alive.
I hate Snopes, but I’ll go with them on this instance.

Another body has turned up in the Clinton wake, that of one of the few people outside the foreign intelligence agencies of Russia, China, North Korea or other nations to have seen firsthand the contents of Hillary Clinton’s emails. Guccifer, the Romanian hacker who was extradited to testify against the former Secretary of State if a trial were to take place, apparently became too much of a liability to the prospective candidate for president. He appears to have been Gaddafied, given the “silent treatment” if you will.
In what is being labeled an “apparent suicide” that came just as she was let off the hook by FBI Director James Comey, the Christian Times newspaper reports that Guccifer was found hanging in his Virginia jail cell. Guccifer was the handle of Marcel Lazar Lehel, who chuckled when describing the ease with which he broke into the Clinton DIY server, describing it as an “open orchid” that was, “was easy … easy for me, for everybody.”
If Hillary didn’t do anything wrong, why even make the point she acted recklessly?
That b.s. was Comey trying to save his corrupt soul from hell. He’ll be with his ole corrupt pals, the clintons, obama and lynch. God won’t be mocked.
