The State Department is reopening its internal review of Hillary Clinton's use of email now that the Department of Justice has completed its investigation, a department spokesman said Thursday evening.
"Given the Department of Justice has now made its announcement, the State Department intends to conduct its internal review," State Department spokesman John Kirby said Thursday.
Kirby said that he could not provide specific details about what information the department would be evaluating.
"We will aim to be as expeditious as possible, but we will not put artificial deadlines on the process," he added. "Our goal will be to be as transparent as possible about our results, while complying with our various legal obligations."
The State Department started its review in January after declaring 22 emails from Clinton's private server to be "top secret" but suspended its review in April to avoid interfering with the FBI's inquiry, according to The Associated Press.
The announcement comes days after FBI Director Comey said Clinton was "extremely careless" when she used her personal server during her tenure with the State Department, but recommended no criminal charges be brought against the presumptive Democratic nominee.
And an Thursday, Comey defended his decision not to charge Clinton before a Republican-led House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing.
The FBI director said Clinton "did not break the law" and that there was not enough evidence to charge her with a crime.
There's a big possibility of that, too.
I'm positive that the emails link to the Clinton Foundation, and from there into many of the political caste.
I sense much sarcasm in you.
(And I absolutely agree.)
I'm unfamiliar with that term; what does it mean?
(Is it another way of saying "kabuki theater" / all staged?)
Not really. Now ANY gov't. official can refuse to answer ANY question about this subject by claiming, "I can't comment on something that's under investigation."
Possible!
Sorry, I was channeling my inner Archie Bunker.
Another go-nowhere endeavor.
Oh please, how will this democrat run department be any different than the FBI....I call bs.
“The guy quoted is John Kirby.”
You never heard of John Kerry? Looks like Lurch? He is the Secretary of...
I’m not saying it will go anywhere, I said the timing is suspicious.
The sarcasm is strong with me.
The search for a scapegoat has begun. Some mid level State Department employee is going to pay dearly for Hillary Clinton’s crimes.
If and when he FBI turns over the “recovered” emails to the DoS, the various FOIA plaintiffs should demand rapid release to them. This will reveal how many of the 30,000+ deleted messages were recovered.
“Our goal will be to use the ‘ongoing investigation’ excuse to avoid having to answer any questions.”
She’ll come out CLEANER!!! Hillary is SO TEFLON!!
I think there are several ways to get her, one way would involve taking a punt gun to the DC swamp where all the corrupt ducks are. (That is, find a serious enough crime that could scoop a whole bunch of the political caste at a time, like this.)
fl
Didn’t HR Clinton ever send emails to Barack Obama that were considered top secret? How about top secret emails to the FBI? How about top secret emails to other government staff that were cleared for this information?
If so, why did not any of them ever put an end to her using the wrong server? How about that her husband was a former president and he never told her that she was breaking the law?
Could this be why she was not indicted? Because then all else who knew would be subject to losing their positions too?
Hillary emailed more than 60,000 emails to WHO?
Who are these people that all knew she was breaking the law and did not correct her?
As I wrote previously, this is possibly a reason why no criminal charges were filed. Then a lot of other people also look incompetent or criminal as well.
