Traditionally, we would hyphenate toward citizenship. Looks to me like they are hyphenating toward birth.
A “German-American” meant the person might be born in German states, but was an American citizen.
They’re calling this scum German-Iranian? Seems to me he has German citizenship, but Iranian (Moslem) heritage. Should be Iranian-German.

Basically, the German (and French, and US) governments are liars, and so are the media. Maybe some German media or French are okay, I have no idea. But no US MSM is okay. They’re just propaganda, with perhaps snippets of truth here and there.
But that’s not what happened. The suspect is apparently dead.
I couldn’t even watch the little weasel. They had no facts, no information whatsoever, and yet somehow he knew it was some far right extremist. And absolutely not a Muslim.
So is the United States. If the parents are Islamic, so will the children be.
